Alphametics As Expressed in Recreational Mathematics Magazine

Recreational Mathematics Magazine (RMM) was published in 1961 through early 1964 with 14 issues appearing. The editor and publisher was Joseph S. Madachy and he later went on to edit Journal of Recreational Mathematics (JRM) for several decades. The most popular feature of RMM was the regular alphametics section, a column that was continued throughout the run of JRM. This book is a republication of the alphametics that appeared in RMM along with the solutions. An alphametic is where a simple arithmetic problem has the digits replaced by letters where the result is a sensible message.

Smarandache Sequences, Stereograms and Series, by C. Ashbacher

Florentin Smarandache is truly a Renaissance man, having produced quality work in art, mathematics and literature. This is my fifth book where I expand on some of his mathematical ideas and there seems to be no end in sight. In chapter 1, several sequences created by concatenating all of the natural numbers are examined. By expressing the numbers in bases other than 10, a single type of concatenation can generate several different sequences. Upon examination, it can be seen that there are some significant differences between the sequences. Subsets of the natural numbers can be concatenated to create additional sequences and several are examined in chapter 2. The successive odd numbers and th...

This is a book continuing the tradition of recreational mathematics established by Martin Gardner and Joseph Madachy. Joseph Madachy created "Recreational Mathematics" magazine and then "Journal of Recreational Mathematics" at the urging of Gardner. The material was all contributed by people with a history of working in the field and was put together by Charles Ashbacher, former co-editor of "Journal of Recreational Mathematics."

Generalized Partitions and New Ideas on Number Theory and Smarandache Sequences

Florentin Smarandache is an incredible source of ideas, only some of which are mathematical in nature. Amarnath Murthy has published a large number of papers in the broad area of Smarandache Notions, which are math problems whose origin can be traced to Smarandache. This book is an edited version of many of those papers, most of which appeared in Smarandache Notions Journal, and more information about SNJ is available at http://www.gallup.unm.edu/~smarandache/ . The topics covered are very broad, although there are two main themes under which most of the material can be classified. A Smarandache Partition Function is an operation where a set or number is split into pieces and together they m...

This book is the second in a series designed to continue the legacy of recreational mathematics that was started by Martin Gardner and Joseph S. Madachy. It contains a tribute to Joe Madachy as well as original work in recreational mathematics. Solutions to problems that appeared in Journal of Recreational Mathematics 37(3) with a list of the contributors and primary solvers is included.
