In a comprehensive study of early Islamic history, Wilferd Madelung examines the conflict which developed after Muhammad's death for the leadership of the Muslim community. He pursues the history of this conflict through the reign of the four 'Rightly Guided' caliphs to its climax in the first inter-Muslim war. The outcome of the war, which marked the demise of the reign of the Early Companions, resulted in the lasting schism between Sunnite and Shi'ite Islam. Contrary to recent scholarly trends, the author brings out Ali's early claim to legitimate succession, which gained support from the Shi'a, and offers a convincing reinterpretation of early Islamic history. This book will make a major contribution to the debate over succession. Wilferd Madelung's book The Succession to Muhammad has been awarded the Best Book of the Year prize by the Islamic Republic of Iran for the year 1997.
This volume focuses on the development of astronomy in al-Andalus, Islamic Spain, relating it to the astronomical science of the Latin West. Both Islamic and European science survived the Latin astronomical tradition after the Arab conquest of 711 and then the influence of Arabic science in Christian Spain.
Volume I of the thirty-eight volume translation of Ṭabarī's great History begins with the creation of the world and ends with the time of Noah and the Flood. It not only brings a vast amount of speculation about the early history of mankind into sharp Muslim focus, but it also synchronizes ancient Iranian ideas about the prehistory of mankind with those inspired by the Qur'an and the Bible. The volume is thus an excellent guide to the cosmological views of many of Ṭabarī's contemporaries. The translator, Franz Rosenthal, one of the world's foremost scholars of Arabic, has also written an extensive introduction to the volume that presents all the facts known about Ṭabarī's personal a...

Recently there has been an international conspiracy against Islam and its Holy Founder the Holy Prophet Muhammad (may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). To use vulgar language, obscene descriptions, distortion of the teachings of Islam and the noble character of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, negative propaganda, blasphemous criticism of the most Noble of the Prophets, and Islam - all this is done in the name of free speech and western civilized values. The Imam and the Supreme Head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih V delivered his Friday Sermon on September 21, 2012 at Baitul-Futuh Mosque in Morden, Surrey UK in response to the film "Innocence of Muslims" and the publication of cartoons in France depicting the Holy Prophet Muhammad (may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). In this Sermon His Holiness set out what our response as Ahmadi Muslims must be. In this booklet we are presenting the English translation of this Sermon for the guidance of every one.
This encyclopedic work on Islam comprises English translations of all canonical ḥadīths, complete with their respective chains of transmission (isnāds). By conflating the variant versions of the same ḥadīth, the repetitiveness of its literature has been kept wherever possible to a minimum. The latest methods of isnād analysis, described in the general introduction, have been employed in an attempt to identify the person(s) responsible for each ḥadīth. The book is organized in the alphabetical order of those persons. These are the so-called ‘common links’. Each of them is listed with the tradition(s) for the wording of which he can be held accountable, or with which he can at l...
