İbâziyye İslam tarihinin erken döneminde cereyan eden siyasi olaylarda önemli rol üstlenmesine rağmen gerek ülkemizde gerekse diğer İslam ülkelerinde gerekli akademik ilgiye mazhar olamamıştır. Ülkemizde yapılan İbâzilik çalışmalarına bakıldığında onun klasik mezhepler tarihi kaynaklarında olduğu gibi Havâric’in bir alt fırkası bağlamında ele alındığı görülecektir. Temelde Haricîliği merkeze alan bu çalışmalarda İbazilik küçük bir ayrıntı olarak ele alındığından fırkanın özgün dini-siyasi görüşleri ve İslam tarihinde oynağı tarihi rol yeterince açıklığa kavuşturulamamıştır. İbazilik adına söylenebilecek bir diğer olumsuz yaklaşım da fırkanın kendi kaynakları yerine daha çok muhalif kaynaklar üzerinden anlatılmasıdır. Muhalif kaynakların İbâziyye fırkasını Havâric ile özdeş kılan yaklaşımlarının fırka hakkında son derece olumsuz düşüncelerin gelişmesine neden olduğu söylenebilir. Bu çalışma İbazi kaynaklar temel alınarak hazırlanmıştır. Okuyucu İbâziliği kendi özgün kaynaklarında okuma imkanı bulacaktır.
