Not long after Geppetto made Pinocchio, he finds himself disappointed in the boy he looks on as his son. Pinocchio cheats, plays hooky from school, and lies to cover his selfishness and misdeeds. But his nose betrays him. Still, when Pinocchio runs away from home, Geppetto is broken-hearted. One day he is driven to make another marionette that turns out to be a girl he names Gelsomina. She is everything Pinocchio is not, generous, warm-hearted, eager to go to school and learn. Yet to his amazement, he finds that, in contrast to Pinocchio, Gelsomina's nose grows not when she tells a lie but only when she tells the truth. But Geppetto misses Pinocchio, so Gelsomina sets out to bring him home. How she does so is a magical and charming fairy tale of how goodness triumphs, in which Gelsomina saves Pinocchio's life, changes Geppetto's life for the better, and learns how to deal with telling the truth and lying until at last she becomes a real live girl, a daughter to Geppetto and a sister to Pinocchio.

UNDERSTANDING JUDGES ‎ UPDATED AND EXPANDED

This commentary was researched and written using Semitic Bible Study Methods, Aramaic (the language Yeshua spoke), and the culture of Yeshua’s day. These methods were initially developed by the Sage Hillel over 2000 years ago augmented and the author. Semitic Bible study methods are based on asking questions about the Scripture, and examining the language and culture of that day. This is a strange idea for church people because the Church teaches that only the Church can interpret Scripture. This is not true. God wants us to ask questions because Scripture’s meaning is as deep as God, and God is infinite.

A Career in Writing

This thesis examines the literary career of Judah Waten (1911-1985) in order to focus on a series of issues in Australian cultural history and theory. The purpose is not to discover a single key to Waten's writing across the oeuvre but rather to plot the specific occasions of this writing in the context of the structure of a career and the cultural institutions within which it was formed.

Corridors of Deceit

John le Carré is viewed by many critics as one of the best spy and espionage novel writers. His most famous works are The Spy Who Came in from the Cold; Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy; and The Little Drummer Girl. Peter Wolfe has produced an informative study of le Carré's works, showing how le Carré's five years in the Service (British Intelligence) helped him become a keen observer, social historian, and expert in bureaucratic politics. He has supplanted the technological flair marking much of today's spy fiction with moral complexity and psychological depth. He shows us what spies are like, how they feel about spying, and how spying affects their minds and hearts.
