Addressing the interactions between the different design and construction variables and techniques this book illustrates best practices for constructing economical, long life concrete pavements. The book proceeds in much the same way as a pavement construction project. First, different alternatives for concrete pavement solutions are outlined. The desired performance and behaviour parameters are identified. Next, appropriate materials are outlined and the most suitable concrete proportions determined. The design can be completed, and then the necessary construction steps for translating the design into a durable facility are carried out. Although the focus reflects highways as the most common application, special features of airport, industrial, and light duty pavements are also addressed. Use is made of modeling and performance tools such as HIPERPAV and LTPP to illustrate behavior and performance, along with some case studies. As concrete pavements are more complex than they seem, and the costs of mistakes or of over-design can be high, this is a valuable book for engineers in both the public and private sectors.
High performance concrete is a key element in virtually all-large construction projects, from tall office and residential buildings to bridges, tunnels and roadways. The fully updated Second Edition helps professionals to understand the performance capabilities of these construction materials when selecting the type of concrete to use for particular projects. The author is one of the worlds acknowledged experts on high performance concrete.
Wide-flanged concrete girders are increasingly being used for highway bridges in Wisconsin. The objective of this research was to understand the state of the art of non-metallic SIP forms and to develop design guidelines and performance specifications that can be used locally for the construction of highway bridge decks. Four major types of stay-in-place (SIP) forms using fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) or fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) materials were investigated: fiber reinforcements, grid reinforcements, bar reinforcements and pultruded profiles. The results were used to develop a model design and construction specification for non-structural, non-metallic, SIP forms in highway bridge decks.
The field of Concrete Repair and Rehabilitation is gaining importance in view of its positive impacts in terms of socio-economic benefits and environmental sustainability. Due to growing importance of this field, many engineering colleges have included the subject of concrete repair and rehabilitation in the senior undergraduate and postgraduate course curriculums of civil engineering. This book is an earnest attempt to help students of civil engineering in enhancing their understanding and awareness about critical elements of repair and rehabilitation of concrete structure. The content is organised in such a way that it fulfils the academic needs of the students. This text attempts to dovet...
The Concrete Construction Engineering Handbook, Second Edition provides in depth coverage of concrete construction engineering and technology. It features state-of-the-art discussions on what design engineers and constructors need to know about concrete, focusing on - The latest advances in engineered concrete materials Reinforced concrete construction Specialized construction techniques Design recommendations for high performance With the newly revised edition of this essential handbook, designers, constructors, educators, and field personnel will learn how to produce the best and most durably engineered constructed facilities.
This indispensable handbook provides state-of-the-art information and common sense guidelines, covering the design, construction, modernization of port and harbor related marine structures. The design procedures and guidelines address the complex problems and illustrate factors that should be considered and included in appropriate design scenarios.
First published in 1995, the award-winning Civil Engineering Handbook soon became known as the field's definitive reference. To retain its standing as a complete, authoritative resource, the editors have incorporated into this edition the many changes in techniques, tools, and materials that over the last seven years have found their way into civil
