This book brings together Rita Ackermann's "Mama" paintings, a selection of which will be on view in early 2020 at Hauser & Wirth New York, 22nd Street. It brings together screenwriter and filmmaker Harmony Korine's fake interview with Ackermann, a tribute addressed to the artist from Scott Griffin that explores Ackermann's interplay of time and medium, an original poem written by the artist, and a robust plate section that presents all of the "Mama" works made to date. Of German stock dating back to 1530 in Saxony, Eric George Ackermann GM was born on the Isle of Wight in 1919 and became a leading figure in the world of signals and electronic intelligence. As a Junior Scientific Officer at the Telecommunication Research Establishment, Boscombe Down, with an honorary commission in the Royal Air Force, he made numerous flights over occupied territory searching for, monitoring and destroying Germany's Wuerzburg, Knickebein and X Band radar systems.
