During the last decade there have been increasing societal concerns over sustainable developments focusing on the conservation of the environment, the welfare and safety of the individual and at the same time the optimal allocation of available natural and financial resources. As a consequence the methods of risk and reliability analysis are becomi
This book presents the proceedings of the 14th International Probabilistic Workshop that was held in Ghent, Belgium in December 2016. Probabilistic methods are currently of crucial importance for research and developments in the field of engineering, which face challenges presented by new materials and technologies and rapidly changing societal needs and values. Contemporary needs related to, for example, performance-based design, service-life design, life-cycle analysis, product optimization, assessment of existing structures and structural robustness give rise to new developments as well as accurate and practically applicable probabilistic and statistical engineering methods to support these developments. These proceedings are a valuable resource for anyone interested in contemporary developments in the field of probabilistic engineering applications.
Composed of the proceedings of a symposium on engineering geology and the environment, held in Athens in June, 1997, this work provides a survey of trends in engineering geology, and an interdisciplinary collaboration with hydrogeology, geochemistry, geomorphology, and soil and rock mechanics.
"Papers presented at the symposium in remembrance of prof. Jan M. van Noortwijk on November 24, 2009 in Delft, the Netherlands"--Cover.
Sponsored by Committee 9A/10 of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat of the Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE. This report uses an international perspective to look at structural safety problems from basic concept to design and construction. The report examines the overall concept of safety, including how to ensure safety and can assist engineers in explaining safety concepts to a client or the public. Topics include: Øsafety concepts, Ørole of regulation and standards, Øload modeling, Øreliability analysis, Øreliability-based design, Ødurability in structural safety assessment, Øsoils and foundations, Øassessment of existing structures, Øquality management of structural design, Øquality management in construction, and Øhuman error. Practicing structural engineers and students in the field of structural engineering will find this report useful.
Around 100 scientists from 21 countries contributed to the four years of assembled works contained in this volume. Launched in May 2000, the aims of this cooperative action were: * to develop, combine and disseminate new technical engineering technologies * to improve the quality of urban buildings * to propose new technical solutions to architects and planners * to reduce the disturbance caused by construction in urban areas and improve urban quality of life. This publication is the final report of COST C12, and includes datasheets of key information related to mixed building technology, structural integrity under exception actions, and urban design.
Bridge Safety, Maintenance, Management, Life-Cycle, Resilience and Sustainability contains lectures and papers presented at the Eleventh International Conference on Bridge Maintenance, Safety and Management (IABMAS 2022, Barcelona, Spain, 11–15 July, 2022). This e-book contains the full papers of 322 contributions presented at IABMAS 2022, including the T.Y. Lin Lecture, 4 Keynote Lectures, and 317 technical papers from 36 countries all around the world. The contributions deal with the state-of-the-art as well as emerging concepts and innovative applications related to the main aspects of safety, maintenance, management, life-cycle, resilience, sustainability and technological innovations ...
