Organizational Learning. A Framework for Public Administration
In order to face the challenge of effective organizational learning in our public policies, we need to address three pressing questions: 1. How does learning work in our public organizations? 2. What promising practices can we implement to advance learning in public organizations? 3. What changes in public management are required to combine learning with the growing demands of performance and accountability? This book is an attempt to address those questions in a systematic and empirical manner. The answers presented in this volume are the result of a four-year empirical research project conducted in Polish ministries and study visits in public institutions of twelve countries of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.

We strongly believe that evaluation studies are one of the key feedback mechanisms in modern public policy. They help us reflect critically on the value and merit of our programmes, learn and improve the utility of new public interventions.
Rozwój lokalny w turbulentnym otoczeniu
Współczesna rzeczywistość społeczno-gospodarcza podlega coraz szybszym przekształceniom, których skutki widoczne są zarówno w skali globalnej, jak i krajowej czy lokalnej. Zmiany te stanowią istotne wyzwanie nie tylko dla podmiotów gospodarczych, ale też dla władz publicznych, a także społeczeństwa i poszczególnych ludzi. Jak zatem lokalni aktorzy wspierają i jak mogą wspierać adaptacyjność lokalnych systemów społeczno-ekonomicznych? Przedmiotem badania – którego rezultatem jest niniejsza publikacja – były bezpośrednie działania oraz potencjał jednostek samorządu terytorialnego (gmin i powiatów) województwa mazowieckiego w zakresie zwiększania adaptacyjności przedsiębiorstw i osób na rynku pracy. Badanie składało się z dwóch części: analizy ilościowej danych zastanych i ankiety skierowanej do władz wszystkich gmin i powiatów w województwie oraz z części jakościowej, na którą złożyło się 6 studiów przypadków wybranych gmin (Mława, Mszczonów, Piaseczno, Przasnysz, Siedlce, Szydłowiec).
Regional Policy in China
Currently, much is said about the directions of development of modern China. However, we still do not know what will determine the expected superpower position of the Middle Kingdom. The book is an attempt to answer questions about China's main development challenges from a regional perspective. China aspires to become the country with the largest economy and development potential. This intention may turn out to be in vain if such significant disparities and development imbalances in the regional system are still present in China. The key to understanding the transformation of contemporary China is to recognize the internal determinants of the functioning of both the state and the economy from a regional perspective. A better understanding of the ways of managing regional development disparities may contribute to a more accurate assessment of the dynamics and directions of China's socio-economic development.

Social and Economic Development in Central and Eastern Europe
The integration of post-socialist Central and Eastern Europe into the EU is one of the success stories of European development. The region has seen significant economic convergence, dramatic changes in socio-economic indicators and improvements in the natural environment. However, some challenges remain, such as political divergence, public governance issues and population demographics. This book identifies and analyses the key post-1990 developments across the New Member States at the sub-national and national levels, with frequent country-level and regional comparisons. Careful attention is paid to drawing out commonalities in development trajectories while appreciating each country’s unique context.
