Namun hal ini dibuktikan dengan kenyataan bahwa pernikahan di masyarakat tidak sepenuhnya atau belum berjalan sesuai dengan harapan, jika terdapat masalah banyak pasangan yang melakukan tindakan yang tidak semestinya berupa dengan tindakan kekerassan seperti pemukulan, penamparan, dan ancaman. Kekerasan yang terjadi dalam rumah tangga paling banyak menimpa ibu rumah tangga alias istri atau anak-anak, dan sangat disayangkan bahwa kekerasan yang terjadi dalam rumah tangga sering tidak dilaporkan oleh pihak berwenang karena pengancaman/intimidasi dan bahkan ketakutan, dan trauma pada korban yang mengakibatkan korban tidak berani melaporkan hal tersebut.
