Empirically Informed Ethics: Morality between Facts and Norms
This volume provides an overview of the most recent developments in empirical investigations of morality and assesses their impact and importance for ethical thinking. It involves contributions of scholars both from philosophy, theology and empirical sciences with firm standings in their own disciplines, but an inclination to step across borders—in particular the one between the world of facts and the world of norms. Human morality is complex, and probably even messy—and this clean distinction becomes blurred whenever one looks more closely at the various components that enable and influence our moral actions and ethical orientations. In that way, morality may indeed be located between facts and norms—and an empirically informed ethics that is less concerned with analytical purity but immerses into this moral complexity may be an important step to make the contributions of ethics to this world more valuable and relevant.

O presente livro é o resultado das pesquisas realizadas em nível de mestrado e tem como objetivo mostrar como é possível interpretar a ligação, sistematicamente crucial, entre o fato da razão e o sentimento de respeito pela lei moral a partir da análise da figura do sentimento moral. Uma das ideias mais controversas entre os comentadores da ética kantiana é justamente saber que função pode desempenhar o sentimento moral, tendo em vista a pretensão de Kant de justificar um critério de avaliação moral baseado na ideia de validade intersubjetiva e universal. Como, então, pode a consciência moral ter influência na práxis e fazer com que o agente seja capaz de tomar interesse pelo agir moral, eis o tema desta investigação.

Ensaios Semânticos
O objetivo desses ensaios é elaborar uma teoria do conteúdo semântico sentencial. Nos seus nove capítulos é elaborada uma teoria semântica relacional pela qual a significatividade das expressões é explanada por meio da definição de modos de remissão e de funções semânticas. Nessa teoria, as funções semânticas das diferentes expressões são diferenciadas e definidas por meio de dois modos básicos de remissão, um referencial e outro anafórico-inferencial. Ambos esses modos são tratados como ingredientes complementares indispensáveis da significatividade. A teoria procura explanar a natureza da significação das diferentes expressões e as relações sistemáticas de significação entre palavras, frases e sentenças, bem como fornecer uma explicação das relações entre as expressões linguísticas e aquilo de que se diz alguma coisa por meio dessa linguagem. Esta teoria propicia, além disso, um modelo de explanação do que é interpretar e compreender uma expressão sentencial que dispensa a postulação seja de faculdadesseja de entidades especiais.
