Learning, and hence education, are in turmoil. Traditional learning techniques are challenged by powerful new approaches and insights while students and employers alike put new demands on education. The new insights come from quite different areas of science. This book aims to provide a future-oriented picture of the various developments culminating in an educated speculation on learning and education in the near future. It has been written for leaders in education, scholars as well as practitioners and policymakers. Learning will be a central issue in the decades to come. In the words of the recently deceased cultural anthropologist Catherine Bateson: “We are not what we know but what we are willing to learn.”
Alzheimer's Disease
There is a wide scope of clinical phenomenology in Alzheimers disease, regarding the age of onset, presenting features, rate of progression and appearance of other clinical manifestation. Although clinical appearance and neuropathological hallmarks have been defining AD since its first description, major factors which trigger pathology are still unknown. The role of comorbidity is discussed controversially. Important environmental risk factors in AD development are continuous stress, low education and cardiovascular risk factors such as alcohol intake, smoking, hypertension. The role of lipids and cholesterol has been recognized, but the relevant pathogenetic steps are still to be identified. There is an urgent need to understand molecular disease pathogenesis in order to develop early therapeutic targets for the disease.

Agroecological Management of Weeds – Minimizing Chemical Herbicides in Arable Cropping
Weeds have a strong impact on arable production, causing yield quantity and quality losses. Adequately controlling them is fundamental in arable cropping. However, weeds develop strategies to survive control. For decades, the dominating method to manage weeds was the use of chemical herbicides. Weeds becoming resistant against these chemical herbicides is an obvious and global reaction; together with undesired environmental consequences, this creates increasing pressure to overcome chemical herbicide use. Therefore, foreseeing weed management demands exploiting and evaluating novel methods to replace them. Since each single method will probably be less effective than chemical herbicides, systematic integration and upscaling on levels like fields, farms, cropping systems, landscapes and socio-economics is required in research. Agro-ecological management of weeds stands for this ambition.

Bir veteriner Hekimin, çalıştığı Bakanlıkta ki yaşanan olayları edebi bir üslupla ele alıyor. En üst düzeydeki bakanı mizahi bir dille anlatıyor. Bir Türkiye panoraması, insan davranışlarını ustalıkla edebiyata aktarıyor… Çok güzel bir kitap okudum. Bu yaşananları çocuk gözüyle hatırlıyorum. Göremediğim, bilmediğim çok şey varmış.
