A comprehensive explanation of drug metabolism concepts and applications in drug development and cancer treatment In the newly revised second edition of Drug Metabolism Handbook: Concepts and Applications in Cancer Research, a distinguished team of researchers delivers an incisive and robust exploration of the drug metabolism system and a well-illustrated and detailed explanation of the latest tools and techniques used in the research, pharmacology, and medicine. The book discusses the creation of new molecular entities, drug development, troubleshooting, and other highly relevant concepts, guiding readers through new applications in pharmaceutical research, development, and assessment. The ...
The goal of this book is to improve the readers' knowledge of metabolite elucidation in drug metabolism by exposing them to in depth coverage of the biotransformation of xenobiotics, strategies for identifying and characterizing metabolites, FDA guidelines, and case studies on how to improve the decision-making process in structural modification of drug candidates to reduce toxicity. The book consists of 8 chapters; it first provides an introduction on biotransformation of xenobiotics, and then presents modern approaches and strategies for dealing with metabolite characterization, using tools such as LC-MS, H-D exchange, stable isotopes LC-MS-NMR, and radiolabeled compounds. Also, strategies for dealing with reactive intermediates in drug discovery and development are presented as well as case studies on improving the decision-making process in the structural modification of drug candidates. The last chapter discusses the regulatory perspectives of safety testing of drug metabolites and why, how, and when to test their safety.
A valuable reference tool for professionals involved in the industry, Drug Metabolism in Pharmaceuticals covers new tools such as LC-MS and LC-MS-NMR along with experimental aspects of drug metabolism. This work fills a gap in the literature by covering the concepts and applications of pharmaceutical research, development, and assessment from the point of view of drug metabolism. By providing both a solid conceptual understanding of the drug metabolism system, and a well illustrated, detailed demonstration and explanation of cutting edge tools and techniques, this book serves as a valuable reference tool for bench scientists, medical students, and students of general health sciences.
This book encloses latest and advanced researches on artificial intelligence and its applications in computer science. It is an interesting book that aims to help students, researchers, industrialists, and policymakers understand, promote, and synthesize innovative solutions and think of new ideas with the application of artificial intelligence concepts. It also allows to know the existing scientific works and contributions in the literature. This book identifies original research in new directions and advances focused on multidisciplinary areas and closely related to the use of artificial intelligence in applications of computer science, communication, and technology. The present book contains selected and extended high-quality papers of the 1st international conference on Machine Intelligence and Computer Science Applications (ICMICSA’2022). It is the result of a reviewed, evaluated, and presented work in ICMICSA’2022 held on November 28–29, 2022, in Khouribga, Morocco.
In several developing countries, undernourishment is still prevalent while obesity and its related co-morbidities, including chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer, are emerging and contributing increasingly to morbidity and mortality. Several countries are now facing a double burden of malnutrition, i.e. caloric (energy) and micronutrient deficiencies and, at the same time, obesity and diet-related chronic diseases. This "nutrition transition" is associated with rapid economic development, urbanization and global changes, which lead to shifts towards a more energy dense diet, including more fat and sugar and more processed foods, and at the same ...
The print edition is available as a set of two volumes (9789004102224).
With clear explanations, real-world examples and updated ancillary material, the 11th edition of Environmental Chemistry emphasizes the concepts essential to the practice of environmental science, technology and chemistry. The format and organization popular in preceding editions is used, including an approach based upon the five environmental spheres and the relationship of environmental chemistry to the key concepts of sustainability, industrial ecology and green chemistry. The new edition provides a comprehensive view of key environmental issues, and significantly looks at diseases and pandemics as an environmental problem influenced by other environmental concerns like climate change. Fe...
Modern Arabic Sociolinguistics outlines and evaluates the major approaches and methods used in Arabic sociolinguistic research with respect to diglossia, codeswitching, language variation and attitudes and social identity. This book: outlines the main research findings in these core areas and relates them to a wide range of constructs, including social context, speech communities, prestige, power, language planning, gender and religion examines two emerging areas in Arabic sociolinguistic research, internet-mediated communication and heritage speakers, in relation to globalization, language dominance and interference and language loss and maintenance analyses the interplay between the various sociolinguistic aspects and examines the complex nature of the Arabic multidialectal, multinational, and multiethnic sociolinguistic situation. Based on the author’s recent fieldwork in several Arab countries this book is an essential resource for researchers and students of sociolinguistics, Arabic linguistics, and Arabic studies.
