The Drummer's Complete Vocabulary as Taught by Alan Dawson

Alan Dawson was a legendary drummer and educator, known for his work with the top artists in jazz as well as for his 18-year association with Berklee College of Music. This new text and online audio combination was put together by John Ramsay, a prominent drummer in his own right and a former student of Dawson's. The book contains all the important techniques and concepts that Alan Dawson embraced in his own playing and subsequently taught to his students. The recordings include some remastered audio examples from actual lessons taught by Dawson himself over the years. This is a highly comprehensive textbook from a jazz master.

The Relative Hills of Britain

How many hills are there in Britain? Has anyone climbed them all? Where is there for hill walkers to go in the south of England? What is a hill anyway? The answers to these and other questions will be found in The Relative Hills of Britain. This book dispenses with the common assumption that a hill must be at least 2000ft high to be worth climbing. Instead it concentrates on listing all the hills that are relatively high compared to the surrounding land, rather than compared to sea level. This approach leads to some interesting results: for example, the highest points in the Cotswolds and Chilterns, Campsies and Quantocks are all included, as well as the main summits on numerous Scottish islands, whereas well- known mountain summits such as Cairn Gorm, Bowfell and Carnedd Dafydd do not qualify. As well as being an invaluable reference work for all walkers, this book contains a fascinating collection of not too serious facts and figures about the Marilyns, as these relative hills have been called. The book is illustrated by a set of photographs and a large number of very clear maps, which make it easy to locate all the hills in each region.

"Kings of Tort chronicles a tale of judicial bribery and political intrigue in Mississippi ... . It features the story of Dickie Scruggs, who was largely credited with bringing down Big Tobacco in the early 1990s. From his ascent to a net worth of nearly a billion dollars to his downfall stemming from his role in improperly influencing two local judges to influence cases involving fee disputes with other lawyers, the book documents how those in Scruggs's own trusted circle of tort barons turned on him and cooperated with federal authorities. It also shows the political influence he wielded with judges, attorneys general, and even his own brother-in-law, former US Senator Trent Lott" --

"Other than getting a lot of people killed, it doesn't seem like we're accomplishing much. What are we doing this for?" Dawson asked. "That's why our operations are classified for twenty years." the Major replied. "By the time your kids are grown and you can tell them what you did, I'm sure they'll have come up with something." Alan Dawson did not want to go to war. But circumstances drew him closer and closer, until finally, he is thrust into Vietnam's most dangerous missions. Surviving a determined enemy was difficult. Surviving the incompetence of command often proved impossible. Fast-paced action from perilous missions behind enemy lines, to the brothels of Saigon, creates a page-turner you won't put down. The characters are so genuine and ultimately decent, you'll miss them long after you finish Dawson's War. The hoped they were contributing to the war effort. little did they know they were creating a legend. Inspired by the daring exploits of the Green Berets of MACV-SOG. HISTORICAL FICTION IS THE LIE THROUGH WHICH WE LEARN THE TRUTH
