Le Catacombe sotto il Muro
La caduta del Muro di Berlino è diventata il simbolo della libertà riconquistata dai popoli dell’Europa centro-orientale sottoposti all’egemonia sovietica alla fine della seconda guerra mondiale. Per i cristiani dell’Est si aprì allora un’era nuova di libertà e di rinascita dopo una lunga stagione di prove. Ogni Paese viveva una situazione diversa e diverse erano le strategie proposte per assicurare la vita delle rispettive Chiese. «C’era chi riteneva di non poter trattare con l’oppressore e proponeva di ritornare nelle catacombe, in attesa di tempi migliori», ricorda il cardinale Sodano. «Però c’era anche chi proponeva che per aiutare gli incarcerati si dovesse trattare con il carceriere». Attraverso le testimonianze di alcuni protagonisti, il volume ripercorre la transizione dal comunismo alla situazione odierna e coglie un fermento sotterraneo nato ben prima del 1989 e della caduta del Muro.
Gorbacev il furbo ingenuo
Michail Sergeevič Gorbačëv ha senz’altro rivoluzionato gli equilibri del mondo, favorendo due linee di pensiero: una che lo ritiene una sorta di eroe, un’altra che lo ritiene un politico incapace che ha, sia pure involontariamente, creato le basi di tutti gli attuali conflitti che stanno sconvolgendo il pianeta. Un dibattito interrotto, poiché le convenienze politiche hanno portato quasi a dimenticare. Oggi si parla tanto di Putin e della sua Russia, ma difficilmente si parla di quello che è stato il periodo di incubazione di questa Russia frutto inevitabile di quanto accaduto negli anni Ottanta e nei primi anni Novanta. Infatti non si può negare che Putin sia in qualche modo un prodotto della politica di Gorbačëv e che la stessa Ucraina sia nata come Stato indipendente il 1 dicembre 1991 quando Gorbačëv era ancora Presidente dell’Urss. Michail Sergeevič Gorbačëv si è spento il 30 agosto 2022 all’età di 91 anni.

The author, who perfectly speaks Arabic language and has a deep knowledge of the Middle East issue, has been based in Geneva UN base for seven years. She has covered the conflict from its beginning, often visiting Syria and the other countries involved in peace negotiations. Maria Khodynskaya Golenischeva used a series of documental sources and enriched her book thanks to her personal experience.
