Nonclassical Logics and Their Applications

This edited book focuses on non-classical logics and their applications, highlighting the rapid advances and the new perspectives that are emerging in this area. Non-classical logics are logical formalisms that violate or go beyond classical logic laws, and their specific features make them particularly suited to describing and reason about aspects of social interaction. The richness and diversity of non-classical logics mean that this area is a natural catalyst for ideas and insights from many different fields, from information theory to game theory and business science. This volume is the post-proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Logic and Cognition, held at Sun Yat-Sen Unive...

FoLLI-LNCS is the publication platform for the Association of Logic, Language and Information (FoLLI, www.folli.org). The Association was founded in 1991 to advance research and education on the interface between logic, linguistics, computer science, and cognitive science. The FoLLI Publications on Logic, Language and Information aim to disseminate results of cutting-edge research and tutorial materials in these interdisciplinary areas. This LNCS volume is part of FoLLi book serie and contains the papers presented at the 5th International Workshop on Logic, Rationality and Interaction/ (LORI-V), held in October 2015 in Taipei, Taiwan. The topics covered in this program well represent the span and depth that hasby now become a trademark of the LORI workshop series, where logic interfaceswith disciplines as diverse as game theory and decision theory, philosophyand epistemology, linguistics, computer science and artificial intelligence.

Samson Abramsky on Logic and Structure in Computer Science and Beyond

Samson Abramsky’s wide-ranging contributions to logical and structural aspects of Computer Science have had a major influence on the field. This book is a rich collection of papers, inspired by and extending Abramsky’s work. It contains both survey material and new results, organised around six major themes: domains and duality, game semantics, contextuality and quantum computation, comonads and descriptive complexity, categorical and logical semantics, and probabilistic computation. These relate to different stages and aspects of Abramsky’s work, reflecting its exceptionally broad scope and his ability to illuminate and unify diverse topics. Chapters in the volume include a review of ...

Edited in collaboration with FoLLI, the Association of Logic, Language and Information this book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 23rd Workshop on Logic, Language, Information and Communication, WoLLIC 2016, held in Puebla, Mexico, in August 2016.The 23 contributed papers, presented together with 9 invited lectures and tutorials, were carefully reviewed and selected from 33 submissions. The focus of the workshop is to provide a forum on inter-disciplinary research involving formal logic, computing and programming theory, and natural language and reasoning.

Of Great Importance

OF GREAT IMPORTANCE is Nachoem Wijnberg's 16th volume of poetry. One of the most prominent living Dutch writers, Wijnberg's poetry is known for its deceptively plain language and his poems, according to the poet himself, can be read well by anyone who can read a newspaper. The poems in OF GREAT IMPORTANCE engage with statecraft, economics, and world history, lyricizing taxes and debts, stocks and flows, citizenship and labor contracts, notaries and accountants, factories and strikes, freedoms and fundamental rights, banks and railroads, property rights and codes of honor, sieges and treaties, gods and generals, how to make money and how to win elections, when to declare war and when to found...

Edited in collaboration with FoLLI, the Association of Logic, Language and Information this book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 26th Workshop on Logic, Language, Information and Communication, WoLLIC 2019, held in Utrecht, The Netherlands, in July 2019. The 41 full papers together with 6 invited lectures presented were fully reviewed and selected from 60 submissions. The idea is to have a forum which is large enough in the number of possible interactions between logic and the sciences related to information and computation, and yet is small enough to allow for concrete and useful interaction among participants.

Ever since antiquity, philosophers have recognized that truth comes in many "modes", so that a proposition may not only be true or false, but also e.g. "necessary" or "possible". These ideas led to the modern field of modal logic, a lively are of research at the intersection of philosophy, mathematics, and computer science. Nowadays, the term "modal logic" is understood in a broad sense, which allows it to be used for reasoning about seemingly unrelated phenomena such as knowledge, obligations, time, space, and proofs, among many others. Actual research in modal logic draws on techniques from many disciplines including complexity theory, combinatorics, universal algebra, category theory, topology, and proof theory. These proceedings record the papers presented at the 2022 Advances in Modal Logic, a biennial conference series with an aim to report on important new developments in pure and applied modal logic. The topics in this edition include constructive and substructural modal logic, unification, algebraic and neighbourhood semantics, proof theory and complexity of modal logics, and verification in modal logic.

Edited in collaboration with FoLLI, the Association of Logic, Language and Information, this book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third International Workshop on Logic, Rationality, and Interaction, LORI 2011, held in Guangzhou, China, in October 2011. The 25 revised full papers presented together with 12 posters were carefully reviewed and selected from 52 submissions. Among the topics covered are semantic models for knowledge, for belief, and for uncertainty; dynamic logics of knowledge, information flow, and action; logical analysis of the structure of games; belief revision, belief merging; logics and preferences, compact preference representation; logics of intentions, plans, and goals; logics of probability and uncertainty; logical approaches to decision making and planning; argument systems and their role in interaction; norms, normative interaction, and normative multiagent systems; and logical and computational approaches to social choice.
