Alexandra (Shura) Temoschenko was born in China in 1945, the second of fifteen children, to Russian immigrants whose families had journeyed there from the Ukraine at the beginning of the 20th century. Lines Fallen in Pleasant Places is their story and her story- written from her own memories of life in China and from first-hand accounts of her older family members. It is a story of great faith, back-breaking work, of oppressive governments and of the intersection of cultures in tumultuous times. It is a fascinating window into a world little known to most of the West- one Russian girl's everyday family life lived out against the backdrop of historical world events.
