Nanosystems use new, nanoscopic electrical and/or mechanical devices which, as constituents of electronic and electromechanical systems, find application primarily in computing, embedded control and biomedical data acquisition. In particular, this book will deal with the characterization and patterning of these materials from an engineering perspective, with the objective of creating operational prototypes and products. The book will integrate various nano technologies on materials, devices and systems and identify key areas and results. The book will describe different design aspects for integrated systems on silicon, as well as on heterogeneous platforms including, but not limited to, electrical, optical, micromechanical and biological components in various forms and mixtures. By associating research topics from differing horizons, the book will provide a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between electronics/electrical engineering and materials science. The book will include topics at the intersection of these disciplines, and will interface with computer science, biology and medicine.
Theoretical and Technological Advancements in Nanotechnology and Molecular Computation: Interdisciplinary Gains compiles research in areas where nanoscience and computer science meet. This book explores current and future trends that discus areas such as, cellular nanocomputers, DNA self-assembly, and the architectural design of a "nano-brain." The authors of each chapter have provided in-depth insight into the current state of research in nanotechnology and molecular computation as well as identified successful approaches, tools and methodologies in their research.
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the Third International Conference on Nano-Networks, Nano-Net, held in Boston, MS, USA, in September 2008. The 17 revised full papers presented together with 5 invited presentations were carefully reviewed and selected. The papers address the whole spectrum of Nano-Networks and spans topis like modeling, simulation, statdards, architectural aspects, novel information and graph theory aspects, device physics and interconnects, nanorobotics as well as nano-biological systems.
The book will address the-state-of-the-art in integrated circuit design in the context of emerging systems. New exciting opportunities in body area networks, wireless communications, data networking, and optical imaging are discussed. Emerging materials that can take system performance beyond standard CMOS, like Silicon on Insulator (SOI), Silicon Germanium (SiGe), and Indium Phosphide (InP) are explored. Three-dimensional (3-D) CMOS integration and co-integration with sensor technology are described as well. The book is a must for anyone serious about circuit design for future technologies. The book is written by top notch international experts in industry and academia. The intended audience is practicing engineers with integrated circuit background. The book will be also used as a recommended reading and supplementary material in graduate course curriculum. Intended audience is professionals working in the integrated circuit design field. Their job titles might be : design engineer, product manager, marketing manager, design team leader, etc. The book will be also used by graduate students. Many of the chapter authors are University Professors.
Fuzzy and Neuro-Fuzzy Systems in Medicineprovides a thorough review of state-of-the-art techniques and practices, defines and explains relevant problems, as well as provides solutions to these problems. After an introduction, the book progresses from one topic to another - with a linear development from fundamentals to applications.
Technological innovation – combined with scientific research – has always constituted a driving force of transformation in our societies. At the same time, it is no longer simply possible to transfer technologies from the North to the South; it is also essential to consider technical innovations that are adapted to the social, environmental, cultural and economic conditions of receiving countries, and which can be appropriated by their potential users and as such prove to be real technologies for fostering development. The first International Scientific Conference on the topic organized by the UNESCO Chair Technologies for Development at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in ...
This book discusses the design of multi-camera systems and their application to fields such as the virtual reality, gaming, film industry, medicine, automotive industry, drones, etc. The authors cover the basics of image formation, algorithms for stitching a panoramic image from multiple cameras, and multiple real-time hardware system architectures, in order to have panoramic videos. Several specific applications of multi-camera systems are presented, such as depth estimation, high dynamic range imaging, and medical imaging.
This book contains extended and revised versions of the best papers that were presented during the thirteenth edition of the IFIP TC 10 International Conference on Very Large Scale Integration, a Global System-on-Chip Design and CAD conference. This conference provides a forum to exchange ideas and show industrial and academic research results in the field of microelectronics design.
Design exibility and power consumption in addition to the cost, have always been the most important issues in design of integrated circuits (ICs), and are the main concerns of this research, as well. Energy Consumptions: Power dissipation (P ) and energy consumption are - diss pecially importantwhen there is a limited amountof power budgetor limited source of energy. Very common examples are portable systems where the battery life time depends on system power consumption. Many different techniques have been - veloped to reduce or manage the circuit power consumption in this type of systems. Ultra-low power (ULP) applications are another examples where power dissipation is the primary design ...
