Crafting a Global Field
The Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) is the oldest and largest body of its kind, and is a leader among the 44 members of the World Council of Comparative Education Societies (WCCES). This book celebrates the CIES' 60th anniversary. The Society grew out of a series of conferences in the mid-1950s. Those conferences were attended by a small group of scholars in the USA who were keen to elucidate and expand their field. Now the Society has over 2,500 individual and about 900 institutional members (mainly libraries) around the world. The book explains how the Society was constructed and internationalized. It analyzes its development trajectory, its major structural components, and the programs and curricula that it has inspired and nourished. The significance of the book is not restricted to the CIES. It will certainly interest counterparts in other WCCES constituent societies and scholars from all fields who are concerned with institutional structures and their evolution.

Teaching Comparative Education

Faith, Diversity, and Education
This volume explores how conservative Christian schools are shaping education in America and in turn, students’ attitudes about diversity. Based on data collected as part of a year-long, ethnographic study of a K-12 conservative, Christian school in the South, this volume analyzes the way that diversity was thought about and acted upon in a school, and how these decisions affected students and teachers across racial differences. The book demonstrates that conservative Christian theology defined a school’s diversity efforts. It also reveals the complexity of addressing diversity in a context that is largely wary of it, at least in its typical secular usage. The findings presented in the book raise important questions about school vouchers, the influence of religious beliefs on educators’ decision-making in schools, the morality and existence of Christian schools, and diversity initiatives in white spaces. Learning from Comparing: new directions in comparative education research
Learning from Comparing is a major two-volume study which reassesses the contribution of comparative educational research and theory to our understanding of contemporary educational problems and to our capacity to solve them.
