ON THE BOARDS WITH BLOWERS

Old friends and Test Match Special colleagues, Henry Blofeld and Peter Baxter had many outrageous tales of life in and around the radio cricket commentary boxes of the world. So in 2012, the two embarked on a tour that saw them take their hilarious stories onto the stage in a two-man show. They soon found themselves treading the boards in the West End, at the Edinburgh Fringe, and travelling as far afield as Australia. The extraordinary characters who inhabited that commentary box – quite apart from the remarkable Blowers himself – featured prominently. There was the ebullience of Brian Johnston; the enormous thirst of John Arlott; the eternal scattiness of Christopher Martin-Jenkins; the mischief of Jonathan Agnew and a host of other walk-on parts. On the Boards with Blowers looks behind the scenes of creating this unique show, as well as regaling readers with many of the side-splitting tales themselves. It is a book to be enjoyed by cricket fans and the general public alike.

What lies herein defies my description; better that you judge for yourself....at the very reasonable price, below. Nor can Wikipedia and Whos Who shed light on the authors credentials - billboard superlatives and famous fan endorsements dont exist to persuade you further (hence the room at the bottom). Fruitless too, searching for your name in the index: there isnt one. Either invest, out of curiosity, or opt for James Pattersons next (guaranteed) best-selling page-turner (left a bit...along the row of Ps). Nice Guys Finish Last and Always the Bridesmaid had been done (in words...to music), and though Who cares whos 3rd isnt original (nor the theme, really), its front cover should tell you that this is about sport on the telly, basically - from Mexico City (and Bob Beamon), to the Greater London Urban Area (and Usain Bolt, youd imagine). Those whove helped make it my journey of a lifetime are the real architects. John Philips

Moving Mountains

Environmental stewardship and wilderness protection are core values in outdoor programs and require a participant to tell why natural resources are important to them and to the future of our country. Today, environmental curriculum and nature-based lessons are taught in elementary and secondary schools. Beyond the intellectual learning in classrooms, experience in the wilderness and field research in nature is essential. The mountains particularly have much to teach us. Mountains are sacred places to people of all races, cultures, religions throughout the world. Mountains and glaciers are also a barometer of climate change and a bellwether of environmental trends. Mountains resemble leading indicators in the economic and political battle over climate change. Altering our destructive trajectory will be like moving mountains, and it will save them.

Belonging: The Autobiography

'People think they know him but unless you read this book you will never know the REAL Alun Wyn Jones' – Warren Gatland ‘One of the greatest, and seemingly indestructible, players in history' – A Daily Mail Book of the Year Belonging is the story about how the boy from Mumbles became the most capped rugby union player of all time. It is the story of what it takes to become a man who is seen by many as one of the greatest ever Welsh players. What it takes to go from sitting cross-legged on the hall floor at school watching the 1997 Lions tour of South Africa, to being named the 2021 Lions captain. But is it also about perthyn – belonging: playing for Wales, working his way through the...
