This book examines green management practices among top-performing companies operating on the Chinese mainland. It begins with the question: what constitutes a “green” company? Is this definition different when we consider China’s sustainability efforts? Taken into consideration are such aspects as green management vision, supplier management programs, resource usage and investment in the environment. Through in-depth interviews with sustainability leaders and top executives, this Green Management Book will reveal how to systematically create or improve existing green management strategies in China. It uses actual case studies from domestic and foreign companies to highlight these practices. Over 2 years of extensive research - working with the research board of the Fortune China CSR rankings and China-based CSR strategy platform InnoCSR – contribute to a comprehensive list of companies that are leading the way towards a greener China.

A comprehensive and critical review of the global scholarly literature on diversity, this book presents findings from original UK-based research involving in-depth organizational case studies, interviews, observation and documentary data from over fifty organizations. Analyzing the findings from the perspective of key stakeholder groups - diversity practitioners, line-managers, trade union equality officers, workplace trade union representatives and employees, it addresses a range of questions, including: How is the diversity concept developing in the UK? Has the UK deconstructed and reconstructed the diversity concept to fit with the legal, social and economic context of UK organizations? H...

Adjusting Towards AFTA

Adjusting Towards AFTA

The decision to establish the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) was initially met with widespread enthusiasm. Some of this enthusiasm has since dissipated as all countries except Singapore have voiced concerns regarding the ability of sensitive industries to compete in the new protection-free environment. Underlying these concerns is the view that the evolving pattern of trade will be more complementary, or that inter-industry of net trade will dominate intra-industry trade. This study employs a new methodology to analyse the dynamics of trade in the ASEAN countries as they approach the deadline of AFTA, with a view to identify likely adjustment costs associated with liberalizing their trade.

China and the Asia Pacific Economy

Eighteen papers from a June 1996 conference on China and the Asian Pacific Economy held in Brisbane, Australia--presented here in revised form--consider the possible future roles of the Chinese economy in the Asia Pacific region. The contributions place the Chinese economy in the context of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) process, and propose that the integration of the economies of China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan (the so-called Greater China phenomenon) has resulted in a Chinese emphasis on the northern part of APEC.
