Thrive

Every generation faces challenges, but never before have young people been so aware of theirs. Whether due to school strikes for climate change, civil war, or pandemic lockdowns, almost every child in the world has experienced the interruption of their schooling by outside forces. When the world we have taken for granted proves so unstable, it gives rise to the question: what is schooling for? Thrive advocates a new purpose for education, in a rapidly changing world, and analyses the reasons why change is urgently needed in our education systems. The book identifies four levels of thriving: global – our place in the planet; societal – localities, communities, economies; interpersonal – our relationships; intrapersonal – the self. Chapters provide research-based theoretical evidence for each area, followed by practical international case studies showing how individual schools are addressing these considerable challenges. Humanity's challenges are shifting fast: schools need to be a part of the response.

A real Victorian Romantic novel set within the County of Herefordshire in the UK. Repleat with love, hate, murder and passion. The scene commences in 1845 and leads the reader through many twists and turns in the daily lives of the two main characters, Sir Ralph Edward Forde- Stylles and his wife, Lady Amelia (nee, Peterson), middle Daughter of the Reverend and Mrs Peterson of Brockington Rectory. The story commences with Ralph ardently pursuing Amelia's Sister, Arabella, until her life is cut short by a jealous rival. The book combines humour, passion and several twists in the tail as the years roll by for this troubled family. The plot involves more of a 'love-quintet' rather than the more conventional 'love-triangle', which, as always, ends in sadness and despair for some and joy and happiness for others

Offers an innovative plan to eliminate inequalities in American health care and save the lives they endanger Over 84,000 black and brown lives are needlessly lost each year due to health disparities: the unfair, unjust, and avoidable differences between the quality and quantity of health care provided to Americans who are members of racial and ethnic minorities and care provided to whites. Health disparities have remained stubbornly entrenched in the American health care system—and in Just Medicine Dayna Bowen Matthew finds that they principally arise from unconscious racial and ethnic biases held by physicians, institutional providers, and their patients. Implicit bias is the single most ...

Immigration Law and the U.S.–Mexico Border

Americans from radically different political persuasions agree on the need to “fix” the “broken” US immigration laws to address serious deficiencies and improve border enforcement. In Immigration Law and the US–Mexico Border, Kevin Johnson and Bernard Trujillo focus on what for many is at the core of the entire immigration debate in modern America: immigration from Mexico. In clear, reasonable prose, Johnson and Trujillo explore the long history of discrimination against US citizens of Mexican ancestry in the United States and the current movement against “illegal aliens”—persons depicted as not deserving fair treatment by US law. The authors argue that the United States has ...
