The Fire in the Snow

It is a work of fiction which contains some actual experiences which author has been fortunate enough to have. The story addresses important undercurrents of our time - the nature of evil, reincarnation and Karma, and the sense that people may belong to a community based on striving and spiritual activity. All the individuals have powerful threshold experiences in which they are taken to a point of no-return. Their encounters transform them and lead them inevitably into contact with each other. Their Karma as a group is sealed and brought onto a new level of awareness through a redemptive act of sacrifice. Thus the end of the story is also its beginning.

Beckh characterises the qualities of musical development, examines select musical works (that represent for him the peak of human ingenuity), and throws new light on the nature and source of human creativity and inspiration. Published here for the first time, the lectures demonstrate a distinctive approach founded on the raw material of musical perception. Beckh discusses the whistling wind, the billowing wave, the song of th...

Departure of the Perfected One

Presenting vivid pictures of Gautama Buddha’s life, teaching, suffering, death and subsequent nirvāṇa, the Mahāparinibbānasutta is one of the principal Buddhist texts. In Hermann Beckh’s words, it describes ‘…one of the greatest human beings that ever lived, who stood at the threshold of the super-human – a teacher and leader of humanity.’ Prof. Beckh’s translation of this important sutta achieved a quality and faithfulness that was based on decades of extensive study and meditation. From his academic and spiritual knowledge, Beckh added insightful editorial material, including an introduction, commentary and notes. The English rendering here, by Indologist and long-standi...

Rudolf Steiner's original contribution to human knowledge was based on his ability to conduct 'spiritual research', the investigation of metaphysical dimensions of existence. Samples of his work are to be found in this introductory reader in which Beth Usher brings together excerpts from Steiner's many talks and writings on Eurythmy. The volume also features an editorial introduction, commentary and notes.Chapters: In the beginning, God created out of movement; School eurythmy - a kind of spiritual gymnastics; Eurythmy therapy - the word of the heavens is the being of man; Silent soul: speaking soul. Eurythmy as a performing art; How eurythmy arises out of anthroposophy.
