Den 1. og 3. marts 1998 sendte TV2 to dokumentarprogrammer om Politiets Efterretningstjeneste. Programmerne afslørede, at PET havde infiltreret lovlige politiske organisationer og aflyttet offentlige debatmøder. For første gang i danmarkshistorien fortalte tidligere agenter og meddelere om deres arbejde for PET. I denne bog beskriver de to journalister bag TV2-programmerne hele sagen om PET. Gennem en række "dagbogsnotater" giver forfatterne læserne en enestående mulighed for at få indblik i alle de frustrationer, al den usikkerhed, tvivl og glæde, tilrettelæggerne af tv-dokumentarprogrammer oplever undervejs i produktionen. Læseren er med, når journalisterne planlægger skjulte optagelser med PET-folk, og når de er ude at banke på hos tidligere agenter. Søren Steen Jespersen og Miki Mistrati blev nomineret til både Cavlingprisen og en TV-Oscar for de to programmer. Søren Steen Jespersen (f. 1962) er en dansk instruktør, forfatter, producer og grundlægger af LARM FILM. Miki Mistrati (f. 1968) er en dansk journalist og forfatter, som har været nyhedschef og ledende redaktør for Ekstra Bladet.
