Andre Harvey: Sculptor
André Harvey (1941-2018) was an American sculptor whose realistic and contemporary works were primarily cast in bronze using the lost wax process. Harvey also worked in granite, created collages, and expressed his art with his highly detailed miniature sculptural jewelry cast in 18K and 22K gold. His deep appreciation for the natural world led to his creation of his Woods Garden and abstract stone sculptures. This lovingly curated book gives the reader an exploration into the sculptor's world and was overseen by the artist's wife, Bobbie Harvey. It is being published as Harvey's archives are being moved to the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution. Writing for The New York Times, Richard Sandomir quoted the former executive director of the Hagley Museum & Library David Al Cole, --"what defines André's work is that it is not only attentive to the form of the natural world, but all his subjects seem to come alive. Even the plants seem to be pulsating."
