Early Child Development in the French Tradition

This volume shares significant contemporary "Francophone" contributions to developmental psychology outside geographic and intellectual borders of French-speaking countries. Except for the spread of Piagetian theory after World War II into Anglophone psychology, these new publications have not become so well known worldwide as progress in Francophone developmental psychology warrants. However, the work of a new generation of developmental theorists and experimentalists continues to shape important and original lines of thinking and research in France, Canada, and in other French-speaking countries. This work also contributes uniquely to issues such as sensori-motor development, perception, l...

Interprofessional education (IPE) is acknowledged as a need in higher education based on societal demands. The impact of interprofessional collaboration on the quality of care and on the quality of human health is substantial. A continuous effort is needed to underpin interprofessional learning and teaching with evidence and to support it with tools created by research and development. This book is written by scholars from various European countries, all members of the European Interprofessional Practice & Education Network (EIPEN). It contains two chapters on policy issues and six chapters with concrete examples of programme reforms or successful interprofessional courses in health and soci...

This book presents thinking about and through transdisciplinary and professional development as an educative process. Rather than focusing on the delineation of the approaches offered, an analysis of these contributions points to commonality in those problems that benefit from a transdisciplinary perspective. The core elements of transdisciplinarity can lead to what might be called metanoia - another way of knowing; a knowing which is ‘beyond that which is creative and transformative. This poses challenges for the practice of all professionals and is the core issue that this book addresses. The book brings together the constituting views of transdisciplinarity, or metanoia, and focus them ...

Opportunities and Challenges of Interprofessional Collaboration and Education

Interprofessional collaboration is essential in meeting today's health challenges, which demand high flexibility and innovation. Many health organizations including the World Health Organization (WHO) demand that interprofessional collaboration should be taught and learned globally. Even so, interprofessional education tools have not yet been widely implemented in the curricula of medical professions (incl. physicians, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, etc.); this training usually takes place separately. Collaboration is necessary in health professions education as it can allow professionals to increase their skills and help them achieve more than they would at an individual level. Collaboration also allows for more open-minded approaches when facing new ways of thinking. When knowledge is shared, healthcare employees are more encouraged to share their own ideas and concerns. These achievements of interprofessionalism within health profession education not only benefit the student and employee, but also optimize patient care and increase patient safety. Productivity can also be increased and therefore, reduce costs overall.
