Sui primi rilievi collinari degli Appennini emiliani, nel comune di Quattro Castella (RE), su di una piccola altura, immersa in un bosco di querce, si trovano i resti di Monte Lucio. Di questo sito fortificato poco si conosceva. La sua storia era solo in minima parte nota, nascosta all’ombra dei più imponenti castra limitrofi di Monte Zane e Bianello. Oggi fortunatamente non è più così. Le indagini archeologiche hanno messo in luce un castello di nuova fondazione, eretto nel Duecento su di un poggio, fino ad allora, non abitato.
