A quest to find something new by excavating the "deep time" of media's development—not by simply looking at new media's historic forerunners, but by connecting models, machines, technologies, and accidents that have until now remained separated. Deep Time of the Media takes us on an archaeological quest into the hidden layers of media development—dynamic moments of intense activity in media design and construction that have been largely ignored in the historical-media archaeological record. Siegfried Zielinski argues that the history of the media does not proceed predictably from primitive tools to complex machinery; in Deep Time of the Media, he illuminates turning points of media histo...

The multidisciplinary science of chemical proteomics studies how small molecules of synthetic or natural origin bind to proteins and modulate their function. In Chemical Proteomics: Methods and Protocols, expert researchers in the field provide key techniques to investigate chemical proteomics focusing on analytical strategies, how probes are generated, techniques for the discovery of small molecule targets and the probing of target function, and small molecule ligand and drug discovery. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular BiologyTM series format, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and key tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and practical, Chemical Proteomics : Methods and Protocols seeks to provide methodologies that will contribute to a wider application of chemical proteomics methods in biochemical and cell biological laboratories.

Following significant reforms over the last 20 years, merger control regimes in Latin America now constitute around 20% of merger regimes worldwide. In regard to global transactions that may trigger the notification thresholds in many of these jurisdictions, it became necessary that an up-to-date book analyzing current legislation and case law be available for practitioners. This book compiles for the first time the applicable law governing merger control in Latin America. More than 30 distinguished authors, from both private and enforcement backgrounds, cover 17 jurisdictions and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). For each jurisdiction, the reader will find a presentation of the merger control system, a description of the applicable procedures, and an analysis of the most relevant case law on the subject. In addition, the editors, Paulo Burnier da Silveira and Pamela Sittenfeld, provide an overview of the merger regimes in Latin America, as well as a synthesis of the particularities of the regimes addressed in the book.

Painting in Tempera, C. 1900

This co- publication of Archetype Publications Ltd with Schweizerisches Institut für Kunstwissenschaft (SIK-ISEA) is a collection of essays by an international group of scholars which provides access to an important chapter of technical art history: the rise in the popularity of temperas as an alternative to oil paints in Europe in the 19th and early 20th century. The term 'tempera' designated media that were generally water-soluble and which could include components as wide ranging as egg, gums, glues, soaps, waxes and resins. Revered as the technique of the ancients, it possessed both historical cachet and aesthetic and practical advantages, such as luminosity of colour, short drying time...
