Progress in Sustainable Mobility Research

This book presents the outcomes of the trans- and interdisciplinary research project NEMo (Nachhaltige Erfüllung von Mobilitätsbedürfnissen im ländlichen Raum - Sustainable Fulfilment of Mobility Needs in Rural Areas). Due to demographic change, it is becoming increasingly difficult for rural districts and communities to maintain a basic set of public transport services such as bus and train transit without encountering issues regarding necessary social participation, sensible regional value creation and, last but not least, achievable environmental protection goals. At the same time, the demand for mobility in rural areas will continue to rise in the future, e.g. due to the concentration of medical care facilities and shopping centres close to cities. Focusing on the development of sustainable and innovative mobility services and business models, this book explains how new mobility offers can be created in which citizens themselves become mobility providers. To do so, it combines the findings of the individual research groups with external contributions from science and practice.

Is Europe approaching another crisis that falls into the category: clash of the civilizations? Old Europeans are decreasing in numbers while the Muslim minority is increasing rapidly. There are issues around assimilation. What does this portend? Some are convinced that the 'European Way of Life' is heading for its demise. The last time fear of Islam stalked Europe, was at the end of the seventeenth century. Are we seeing a return? Are Europeans up to the challenge as they have been before? Andreas Winter, with degrees in ancient and medieval history and philosophy and with work experience in Western and Muslim geographies, narrates the history of conflict between the Islamic and the Christian worlds on the continent - with the expectation that one can always learn from the past.

This book presents the latest findings and ongoing research in the field of green information systems and green information and communication technology (ICT). It provides insights into a whole range of cross-cutting topics in ICT and environmental sciences as well as showcases how information and communication technologies allow environmental and energy efficiency issues to be handled effectively. The papers presented in this book are a selection of extended and improved contributions to the 28th International Conference on Informatics for Environmental Protection dedicated to ICT for energy efficiency. This book is essential and particularly worth reading for those who already gained basic knowledge and want to deepen and extend their expertise in the subjects mentioned above.

A Functional, Comprehensive and Extensible Multi-Platform Querying and Transformation Approach

This thesis is about a new model querying and transformation approach called FunnyQT which is realized as a set of APIs and embedded domain-specific languages (DSLs) in the JVM-based functional Lisp-dialect Clojure. Founded on a powerful model management API, FunnyQT provides querying services such as comprehensions, quantified expressions, regular path expressions, logic-based, relational model querying, and pattern matching. On the transformation side, it supports the definition of unidirectional model-to-model transformations, of in-place transformations, it supports defining bidirectional transformations, and it supports a new kind of co-evolution transformations that allow for evolving ...

A Quantum Leap In Information Theory

This is an introductory textbook at graduate or advanced undergraduate level. Students with diverse backgrounds, in mathematics, physics and computer science, can use it to become acquainted with the quantum theory of information. Its scope is deliberately chosen to be not too broad, while being self-consistent and usable for a semester-long course for beginners. The subject is presented using a balanced mix of intuitive arguments and rigorous formalism. The emphasis is not on the physical information but rather in the formal and mathematical features of quantum information theory. Only a basic knowledge of algebra is required to understand the contents of this book. In particular, a backgro...

David Beats Goliath

David Beats Goliath is the story of one man's quest for reaching the top of his chosen profession, but it's also much more. Stefan Langer shares his very personal spiritual journey that changed him from a disillusioned guy with a negative outlook on life who needed to be drunk to have a good time to the goal-oriented, joyful, positive person he is today. Drawing on the wisdom and insights of great teachers such as Joe Vitale, Rhonda Byrne, Anthony Robbins, and Andreas Winter, Stefan Langer's practical and personal approach shows you how to move your life step by step onto a brighter, happier, and more fulfilling path.
