By presenting state-of-the-art results in logical reasoning and formal methods in the context of artificial intelligence and AI applications, this book commemorates the 60th birthday of Jörg H. Siekmann. The 30 revised reviewed papers are written by former and current students and colleagues of Jörg Siekmann; also included is an appraisal of the scientific career of Jörg Siekmann entitled "A Portrait of a Scientist: Logics, AI, and Politics." The papers are organized in four parts on logic and deduction, applications of logic, formal methods and security, and agents and planning.
Spaces of Surveillance

Surveillance seeps out from businesses and power structures to blur the lines of security and confidentiality. This unsettling loss of privacy plays out in contemporary narratives, where the ‘selves’ we create are troubled by surveillance. A COMPENDIUM OF CLASSIC AND POSTMODERN NOVEL SUMMARIES
This book is comprised of a compendium of summaries from all novels that I have read for almost twelve years. Obviously, the summaries have been documented on my blog since 2016, and seemingly, in my opinion, it is better bundled in a book form since the statistic views show that the classic fictions are those among most read, so I rose to comply with that demand. The purpose for which I devote myself to compose 85 summaries is to provide quick reading for novel readers and students. Numerous genres are presented because I am quite concious those will bequeath you an imaginative horizon. As a work of art, many of them transcend their expiatory aspects. And still more important to us than scientific significance and literary worth is the inspirational impact those novels have on serious readers. Finally, happy reading and I hope you will find this book useful.
Contemporary Perspectives on Language, Culture and Identity in Anglo-American Contexts
This collection of essays highlights the great variety one finds in contemporary scholarly discourse in the fields of English and American studies and English linguistics in a broad and inclusive way. It is divided into thematically structured sections, the first two of which examine the motif of travelling and images of recollection in literary works, while the third and the fourth parts deal with male and female voices in narratives. Another chapter discusses visual and textual representations of history. The last two subsections focus on the rhetorical and theoretical questions of language. The pluralism of themes indicated in the book’s title can thus be regarded not as a limitation, but, rather, as evidence of its potential.

There are two things everybody knows about glass: it is transparent, and it breaks! These are also the properties that constitute the challenge of glass as an architectural and structural material. This book presents papers from the third Challenging Glass Conference (CGC3), held at the Technical University (TU) Delft, the Netherlands, in June 2012. The conference brings together glass engineering, research and design specialists. Papers are grouped under seven topic headings: project and case studies; joints, fixings and adhesives; strength, stability and safety (a category which includes a quarter of all the papers presented at the conference); laminates and composite design; curved and bended glass; architectural design and lighting and finally, glass in facades. Glass remains one of the most exciting materials available to designers and architects today. Vegetarianism and Veganism in Literature from the Ancients to the Twenty-First Century re-assesses both canonical and less well-known literary texts to illuminate how vegetarianism and veganism can be understood as literary phenomena, as well as dietary and cultural practices. It offers a broad historical span ranging from ancient thinkers and writers, such as Pythagoras and Ovid, to contemporary novelists, including Ruth L. Ozeki and Jonathan Franzen. The expansive historical scope is complemented by a cross-cultural focus which emphasises that the philosophy behind these diets has developed through a dialogic relationship between east and west. The book demonstrates, also, the way in which carnivorism has functioned as an ideology, one which has underpinned actions harmful to both human and non-human animals.

The 12th Australian Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI'QQ) held in Sydney, Australia, 6-10 December 1999, is the latest in a series of annual re gional meetings at which advances in artificial intelligence are reported. This series now attracts many international papers, and indeed the constitution of the program committee reflects this geographical diversity.
