This book records the events that have occurred prior to eachpublished scientific research paper authored by A D Arulsamy. The chronological narratives shall objectively expose thesequence of events that have prompted the research for eachpublication, including some personal excursions.Along the way, we shall come to see why and how theCondensed Matter Group is formed, and subsequently howthe Institute of Interdisciplinary Science has come to existence as an entity that addresses some of the most important and fundamental questions of our natural world and universe.
Superconductivity is the ability of certain materials to conduct electrical current with no resistance and extremely low losses. High temperature superconductors, such as La2-xSrxCuOx (Tc=40K) and YBa2Cu3O7-x (Tc=90K), were discovered in 1987 and have been actively studied since. In spite of an intense world-wide research, a complete understanding of the copper oxide (cuprate) materials is still lacking. Many fundamental questions are unanswered, particularly the mechanism by which high-Tc superconductivity occurs. More broadly, the cuprates are in a class of solids with strong electron-electron interactions. An understanding of such 'strongly correlated' solids is perhaps the major unsolved...

This book systematically develops the necessary basic sciences needed to answer whether artificial intelligence (AI) can, or cannot be conscious.
Thiruvalluvar's philosophy on time is exploited as an entry point to bind Maxwell electromagnetic theory, Einstein theory of relativity and quantum mechanics that shall lead us to a brand new mechanism for the creation and expansion of our universe. The proposed mechanism provides an alternative possibility to make gravity and quantum mechanics compatible, but not by advocating quantization of gravity. Some of the questions addressed here include, is time real? does time influence our physical universe? is infinity necessary for the beginning of our universe? How to create something out of nothing? What would be the likely end to our universe?
Attempts were made to properly scrutinize and expose the important and speculative physics in a general context (without equations) for public dissection and consumption. The important physical ideas here are the quantum theory, relativity, evolution, Maxwell's demon, black holes and the double-slit experiment, while some of the important and speculative notions are the usual ones, namely, the theory of everything, the big bang, dark matter and dark energy. Along the way, the questions, (1) why biological life forms exist? and (2) do we need a mathematician God? are also addressed. Apart from these topics, the book is also designed to divert your thoughts to scientists' personalities, human conflicts, wars and world wars, and their implications on the forging of physical theories.
This book reflects decades of the author's experience as a research scientist and lab manager providing industry clients, manufacturers, product developers, marketing and distribution organisations with data to answer queries regarding product quality concerns, variability, runnability, convertibility and printability. The basic principles underlying the various testing methods are used to illustrate how their interrelationships lead to validated findings and solving problems. This book covers the basic accepted standard industry mechanical tests supplemented by ultrasonic methods applied to examples of commercial and laboratory handsheet sample sets, presenting the testing technique, data an...
In this comprehensive book, one of the leading experts, Shun-Ichi Murahashi, presents all the important facets of modern synthetic chemistry using Ruthenium, ranging from hydrogenation to metathesis. In 14 contributions, written by an international authorship, readers will find all the information they need about this fascinating and extraordinary chemistry. The result is a high quality information source and a indispensable reading for everyone working in organometallic chemistry. From the contents: Introduction (S.-I. Murahashi) Hydrogenation and Transfer Hydrogenation (M. Kitamura and R. Noyori) Oxidations (S.-I. Murahashi and N. Komiya) Carbon-Carbon Bond Formations via Ruthenacycle Inte...
The New Brazil tells the story of South America's largest country as it evolved from a remote Portuguese colony into a regional leader; a respected representative for the developing world; and, increasingly, an important partner for the United States and the European Union. In this engaging book, Riordan Roett traces the long road Brazil has traveled to reach its present status, examining the many challenges it has overcome and those that lie ahead. He discusses the country's development as a colony, empire, and republic; the making of modern Brazil, beginning with the rise to power of Getúlio Vargas; the advent of the military government in 1964; the return to civilian rule two decades lat...
One of the world’s top experts in behavioral finance offers innovative strategies for improving 401(k) plans. Half of Americans do not have access to a retirement saving plan at their workplace. Of those who do about a third fail to join. And those who do join tend to save too little and often make unwise investment decisions. In short, the 401(k) world is in crisis, and workers need help. Save More Tomorrow provides that help by focusing on the behavioral challenges that led to this crisis inertia, limited self-control, loss aversion, and myopia—and transforms them into behavioral solutions. These solutions, or tools, are based on cutting edge behavioral finance research and they can dr...
