Her life was touched by a longing for God and the desire to be always at the service of the most needy. Back to Europe, she settled in Rome where she founded the Order of the Most Holy Saviour, reviving the spirituality of the great mystic Bridget of Sweden (1303-1373), the Patron Saint of Eu- rope. In the year 2000 she was beatified by Pope John Paul II, who called her "a pioneer of ecumenism", and in 2016 she was proclaimed a saint by Pope Francis.
