Reconciliation in Remembrance of Jesus Christ

Since the Lima Declarations of Convergence in 1982, no other document in the international ecumenical movement has dealt with Eucharistic communion at the celebration of the Lord's Supper in remembrance of the Holy Sacrifice of Jesus Christ. On the occasion of the 11th Assembly of the World Council of Churches in 2022 in Karlsruhe, ecumenically minded Protestant, Free Church, Old Catholic, Roman Catholic and Orthodox theologians from Germany have taken up this topic afresh. They provide insights into the current state of ecumenical conversations, present the various traditions of confessional worship and offer practical suggestions for an ecumenically sensitive liturgical practice. The Germa...

The strong relationship between the Bible and the sacraments of the Catholic Church is generally accepted in theology. This monograph approaches this relationship from a synchronic perspective. This fresh perspective opens up new windows providing insight into similarities found in the various rites, in and outside the Catholic Church. For example, the basic biblical pattern of the celebration of the Eucharist / Last Supper appears to be standard. It also poses critical questions regarding sacramental theology in general, especially to the problematic equation of the proper name Jesus and the title Christ. Archibald L. H. M. van Wieringen, professor of Old Testament at the Tilburg School of Catholic Theology, has published on Isaiah, Amos, communication-oriented analysis and biblical theology. He is a priest of the diocese of Haarlem-Amsterdam.

The European Union is the world's largest economic entity, with half a billion people and a gross domestic product slightly larger than the United States. It is the largest exporter, the largest foreign aid donor, the largest source of foreign investment, and a magnet for migrants. But its decision-making powers are often fragmented and ineffective. To date there has been no comprehensive study of European international economic relations. This book fills that gap. It examines the main areas of Europe's foreign economic policy: trade, development, external competition policy, migration, and external energy/environment policy. This book explains why it is time for the EU to wake up to its global responsibilities, and why, in the absence of reform of its governance system, Europe risks remaining a fragmented power.

The Green Frontier: Assessing the Economic Implications of Climate Action

Addressing climate change will entail major challenges for economic growth, employment, inflation, and public finances. Mitigating the impact of global warming will yield benefits and costs that are yet to be quantified and defined for the global economy and for nations, workers, households, and companies. The Green Frontier: Assessing the Economic Implications of Climate Action offers research originally presented at a major conference at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in June 2023 in Washington, DC, organized to shed light on this still unexplored field of study and recommend policies for the future.

Ernst Wiechert: Die Jeromin-Kinder.

Climate Agendas and Instability

This book examines the expansion of climate governance frameworks in the EU and US and their re-framing as part of green industrial programs. Addressing research on how vectors of stability and punctuation interact to advance or block policy progress, the book breaks new ground by presenting a theoretical framework suitable to integrate insights of comparative research and “sui generis” accounts of climate policy as a variable and multi-dimensional issue. In its empirical part, it compares two contrasting trajectories of climate policy-making: namely, the adaptation of the European Green Deal agenda to the exogenous shocks of the Covid pandemic and war in Ukraine through its NextGen and ...

Detailed case studies of debt defaults by Russia, Ukraine, Pakistan, Ecuador, Moldova, and Uruguay, framed by a comprehensive discussion of the history, economic theory, legal issues, and policy lessons of sovereign debt crises. The debt crises in emerging market countries over the past decade have given rise to renewed debate about crisis prevention and resolution. In Debt Defaults and Lessons from a Decade of Crises, Federico Sturzenegger and Jeromin Zettelmeyer examine the facts, the economic theory, and the policy implications of sovereign debt crises. They present detailed case histories of the default and debt crises in seven emerging market countries between 1998 and 2005: Russia, Ukr...

Reaping the Benefits of Financial Globalization

Financial globalization has increased dramatically over the past three decades, particularly for advanced economies, while emerging market and developing countries experienced more moderate increases. Divergences across countries stem from different capital control regimes, and factors such as institutional quality and domestic financial development. Although, in principle, financial globalization should enhance international risk sharing, reduce macroeconomic volatility, and foster economic growth, in practice its effects are less clear-cut. This paper envisages a gradual and orderly sequencing of external financial liberalization and complementary reforms in macroeconomic policy framework as essential components of a successful liberalization strategy.
