Prehistoric stone towers known as brochs are found only in Scotland. Excavations at the broch of Dun Vulan on the island of South Uist have revealed new details of how the Iron Age inhabitants constructed and used these monumental buildings. The innovative integration of scientific and environmental analyses of the broch's interior and its associated settlement contributes to a new understanding of Iron Age cosmology and domestic practice.
