Náufragos da esperança tem como projeto viajar por uma determinada faixa da literatura para pensar o trajeto não linear da série romanesca que se foi organizando como um paradigma baseado na repetição diferencial da metáfora do naufrágio. O objetivo do livro é descrito pela própria autora, a escritora e professora Lucia Helena, uma das intelectuais brasileiras mais respeitadas da área de Ciências Humanas e Sociais Aplicadas. Dividido em três capítulos: "Estilhaços do naufrágio", "Por mares nunca dantes navegados" e "Naufrágio: metáfora da existência", o ensaio examina a metáfora que o norteia a partir da solidão dos homens em uma época marcada pela incerteza.
