"Kkkhhh!"
Agricultural Involution: The Processes of Ecological Change in Indonesia is one of the most famous of the early works of Clifford Geertz. It principal thesis is that many centuries of intensifying wet-rice cultivation in Indonesia had produced greater social complexity without significant technological or political change, a process Geertz terms "involution". Written for a US-funded project on the local developments and following the modernization theory of Walt Whitman Rostow, Geertz examines in this book the agricultural system in Indonesia and its two dominant forms of agriculture, swidden and sawah. In addition to researching its agricultural systems, the book turns to an examination of their historical development. Of particular note is Geertz's discussion of what he famously describes as the process of "agricultural involution" in Java, where both the external economic demands of the Dutch rulers and the internal pressures due to population growth led to intensification rather than change.
This edited volume is based on the best papers accepted for presentation during the 1st Springer Conference of the Arabian Journal of Geosciences (CAJG-1), Tunisia 2018. The book is of interest to all researchers in the fields of petroleum engineering, reservoir engineering and petroleum geochemistry. The MENA region accounts for more than 50 percent of the world's hydrocarbon reserves. Despite being the largest oil and gas producer of the world, the MENA countries face routine problems regarding petroleum engineering, reservoir modelling and production optimization. This volume offers an overview of the latest information and ideas regarding reservoir engineering, petrophysical engineering, petroleum system modelling, non-conventional energy resources and environmental impact of oil production. Main topics include: 1. Advances in petrophysical characterization of reservoir rocks2. Enhanced oil recovery methods 3. Advances in petroleum exploration and management 4. Evaluation of hydrocarbon source potential and petroleum system modeling5. Non-conventional energy resources
Intended for the professional engineer, scientist and student, this text covers the analysis of project problems, requirements, & objectives, the use of standard & consistent terminology & procedures, & the design of rigorous & reproducible experiments.
Humans are unique in that they expend considerable effort and ingenuity in disposing of the dead. Some of the recognisable ways we do this are visible in the Palaeolithic archaeology of the Ice Age. The Palaeolithic Origins of Human Burial takes a novel approach to the long-term development of human mortuary activity – the various ways we deal with the dead and with dead bodies. It is the first comprehensive survey of Palaeolithic mortuary activity in the English language. Observations in the modern world as to how chimpanzees behave towards their dead allow us to identify ‘core’ areas of behaviour towards the dead that probably have very deep evolutionary antiquity. From that point, t...
Learn how to bridge the gap between the traditional animation principles and digital software. Tradigital Flash: 12 Principles of Animation in Adobe Flash brings the essentials of traditional animation and Adobe Flash together. The early masters of animationcreated a list of 12 principles which are important for anyone who wants to create interesting and believable animation. Digital animation continues to make incredible technological advancements that give animators the capability to produce visually stunning work. New technology, however, also has a tendency to create an environment where animators are so focused on adapting to the new workflow that they tend to dismiss these fundamental ...
