A Kairos Moment for Caribbean Theology
The project of developing a contextual theology for the Caribbean was first articulated in the early 1970s in Trinidad and Jamaica. In the years since, many evangelical churches and theologians in the Caribbean have been ambivalent about the validity of this project, assuming that an emphasis on context was somehow antithetical to the pure gospel. But the crisis of the times, along with a more mature hermeneutic, has led to a re-evaluation of this assumption. Here a group of evangelical Caribbean theologians enter the discussion, with substantive proposals for how the gospel addresses the Caribbean context. They are joined by other theologians from mainline Protestant and Catholic traditions in the Caribbean. The result is an ecumenical dialogue on the diverse ways in which orthodox Christian faith may provide both challenge and hope for the Caribbean context. Half the essays in this volume were originally presented at the Forum on Caribbean Theology held in 2010 at the Jamaica Theological Seminary; the rest were invited especially for this volume.

News media shape public opinion on social issues such as child sexual abuse (CSA), using particular language to foreground, marginalize or legitimize certain viewpoints. Given the prevalence of CSA and the impact of violence against children in Jamaica, there is a need to examine the representation of children and their experience of violence in the news media, which remain the main source of information about such abuse for much of the population. The Bewley Heritage
John Pearson Bewley (1826-1880) was born in England, and farmed in Ireland between 1853 and 1857. He married Jane Patterson in 1858 in London, immigrating to Australia immediately, and immigrating in 1860 to New Zealand. They returned to England in 1870, and in 1875 immigrated to Alexandria, Virginia (after first trying to settle at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania). Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, California and elsewhere. Includes ancestry in England and Scotland to 1066 A.D.

From their heyday in the 1910s to their lingering demise in the 1950s, American film serials delivered excitement in weekly installments for millions of moviegoers, despite minuscule budgets, nearly impossible shooting schedules and the disdain of critics.
