Anna's personal journey has been unbelievable. And yet, it has also been inspiring, a true story of survivorship. It chronicles how she faced a fatal car crash, years of domestic violence and multiple medical issues including multiple bouts of cancer. Why isn't she dead? She often wonders... Join Anna as she tells her amazing story of how she endured many close brushes with death; jockeyed illness, work, networking and volunteering. She also encourages patients to have a positive attitude. Anna admits that she has survived with great medical care and that she relies heavily on her faith in God! Many say it's a story appropriate for Ripley's Believe It or Not, so Anna has included the names of many of her doctors who have provided such fabulous care. She encourages others to know your body. Research an illness. Find the best doctor for what you have. Be pro-active and never give up. Travel Anna's path of challenges. Learn the positives she realized along the way. If Birds Gather Your Hair for Nesting

In this debut collection, Anna Journey invites the reader into her peculiar, noir universe nourished with sex and mortality. Her poems are haunted by demons, ghosts, and even the living who wander exotic landscapes that appear at once threatening and seductive. In these poems, her sly speaker renames a pink hibiscus on display at Lowe's, "Lucifer's Panties"; another character chants, "I'd fall devil / over heels over edge over oleander"; and one woman writes a letter to the underworld: Dear black bayou, once, by a river I bit a man's neck. His scent: the raw teak air husked inside stomachs of six Russian nesting dolls--the ones in the attic I pulled apart and open. The ones I pulled apart and open like Styrofoam cups.

"These are intimate, delicate essays about the many skins we inhabit, illuminating even in their darkness." —The Boston Globe Anna Journey revels in the flexibility and hybridity of the essay form, swerving artfully among topics—a recollection of a personal rupture and ensuing call to a suicide hotline opens into a consideration of taxidermy and lyric time; a mother’s penchant for telling macabre stories at the dinner table connects to campfire songs and the cultural importance of American roots music; and a tattoo artist named after a pirate–themed rum reminds us how we inscribe our skins and spirits through the intimate gestures of ink.

"Anna Journey's poetry is really magical." -- David Lynch, director of Blue Velvet and creator of Twin Peaks "Anna Journey's second collection of poems is wonderful and brings something precise and wild out of a vivid night, an imagery that finds its own necessary music, like sudden isolated birdsongs at dawn. The multiplying shadows of the mind are made exterior here, surprisingly illustrated with anecdotal thought. And Dante no longer concludes that all lovers are martyrs. I'm so happy to have this work in my life." -- Norman Dubie, author of The Volcano "Anna Journey, in her new book of poems, Vulgar Remedies, creates an alchemical self whose shimmering limbic/alembic lyrics distill the mysterious terrors of childhood, the dangerous passions of adults, into her own honey-dusk 'voodun': protective, purified to gold. Poetry is always a time machine: here we are invisible travelers to a bewitched past, a beautifully occluded future. These poems are erotic, vertiginous, revelatory, their dazzling lyric force reflecting profound hermetic life." -- Carol Muske-Dukes, author of Twin Cities

Anna's Journey

Anna's Journey: The Enlightenment of Dentui is a story, part fantasy, and part science fiction, based on New Age themes. It is Anna's story - born on another planet, brought up and trained by a couple of the race called the Old Ones. Anna gets caught up in a quest that will, if successful, raise the consciousness of the people who live on the planet Dentui. Anna herself, must endure three tests: to bring another to the Light, thereby testing her own faith and ability to choose Love over hate; to chose her mate, testing her ability to control human emotions and to raise consciousness to the meaning of Love; and finally to heal one whose love for Anna has been twisted and corrupted. Finally she must face the ultimate goal of her quest - to help the people of Dentui understand that they do not really die. Can she help them learn that only Light and Love exist and that all else is an illusion created to help them find Love where it seems not to exist?
