Religion, Transformation and Gender
The fifth issue of the Interdisciplinary Journal for Religion and Transformation in Contemporary Society (J-RaT) centers on the topic of religion, transformation and sex/gender. The focal point will be on religious and cultural transformation processes and their repercussions on gender roles, constructs and representations on the one hand, and on sex and/or gender transformations which are embedded in the context of specific religious traditions on the other. Transformation is understood here as change, alteration and reformatting. The multifaceted connections between religion, transformation and sex/gender are concretized in an abundance of material and symbolic phenomena and are examined starting from different subject-specific and methodical approaches.
The Political Theology of Paul Tillich
The Political Theology of Paul Tillich explores the political theology of one of the foremost thinkers of the 20th century, Paul Tillich, whose life and scholarship were decisively shaped by his experiences during World War I, his resistance to the rising scourge of Nazism in Germany, and his subsequent immigration to the United States. Tillich’s discerning analysis of fascism, grounded in his socialist commitments, and his continuing efforts to write theology in correlation with culture, make his voice a crucial one for contemporary political theology. The contributors to this volume represent different generations, social and cultural locations, and nationalities Together, they explore Tillich’s early work on religious socialism and its lingering presence in his later systematic theology, bring him into dialogue with liberation theologies, apply his thought to contemporary political concerns, and show the significance of his method of correlation for theological scholarship that engages culture, thereby presenting a case for the continued relevance of Tillich for political theology.

Human Rights and Disability
The formerly established medically-based idea of disability, with its charity-based approach to treatment and services, is being replaced by a human rights-based approach in which people with impairments are no longer considered medical problems, totally dependent on the beneficence of non-impaired people in society, but have fundamental rights to support, inclusion, and participation. This interdisciplinary book examines the diverse concerns that people with impairments face in the context of human rights, provides insights into new developments on important issues relating human rights to disability, and features new approaches and solutions to vital problems in the current debate.

Children’s Bibles are often the first encounter people have with the Bible, shaping their perceptions of its stories and characters at an early age. The material under discussion in this book not only includes traditional children’s Bibles but also more recent phenomena such as manga Bibles and animated films for children. The book highlights the complex and even tense relationship between text and image in these Bibles, which is discussed from different angles in the essays. It aims to facilitate theological and academic religious debate transcending the borders between languages and countries, as well as those resulting from religions, confessions, cultures or traditions, in order to offer constructive future perspectives. This volume has now adopted "building bridges" as its main theme. It reflects the contributions to the 11th International Conference of ESWTR held in 2005 in the unique historical and cultural setting of Budapest. European women in the lead of theological research discuss the subject on the basis of their different specialist approaches and thus provide a unique spectrum of contemporary discourse from very varied disciplines in theology and religious studies.
