The Metamorphosis of the European Economic Constitution

  • Categories: Law

Demonstrating the ways in which the micro and macro-economic constitutions of Europe have reacted to legal measures enacted to counter the economic crisis of the past decade, this innovative book takes an interdisciplinary approach in its attempt to understand and portray the metamorphosis of the European Economic Constitution. It contains contributions from leading scholars and experts in European economic law, discussing the challenges, solutions found, problems arising and possible approaches to embed the economic constitution in the broader constitutional framework of the EU. p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 10.0px Arial}

From Convergence to Crisis

What explains Eurozone member-states' divergent exposure to Europe’s sovereign debt crisis? Deviating from current fiscal and financial views, From Convergence to Crisis focuses on labor markets in a narrative that distinguishes the winners from the losers in the euro crisis. Alison Johnston argues that Europe’s monetary union was structured in a way that advantaged the corporatist labor markets of its northern economies in external trade and financial lending. Northern Europe’s distinct economic advantage lay not with its fiscal capabilities, which were not that different from those of southern Eurozone countries, but with its wage-setting institutions. Through highly coordinated coll...

This book provides a new understanding of the eurozone crisis across three of the worst hit cases: Greece, Portugal, and Ireland. In contrast to accounts which stress the ‘immaturity’ of the European ‘periphery’, as well as more critical narratives that understand these countries as victims of German and core ‘economic domination’, this book recognises that individual peripheral countries have followed dramatically different paths to crisis, making it difficult to speak of the eurozone crisis as a single phenomenon. Bringing literature from Comparative Political Economy into dialogue with scholarship on Europeanisation, this book contributes the concept of ‘divergence via Europ...

This publication is part of a set of 18 documents which have been prepared by H.M. Treasury to inform the assessment of the Government's five economic tests for Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) entry into the euro area. It focuses on short and medium run movements in the exchange rate and considers whether such movements tend to be a stabilising reaction to changes in aggregate supply and demand, or whether they tend to be destabilising. Issues discussed include: how exchange rate is determined and its role in the adjustment process; an interpretation of sterling's strength against the euro since 1996; and a comparison of overall exchange rate volatility inside and outside of EMU. The study contains both theoretical and empirical analysis.

Did God Use Evolution?

Drawing from a variety of topics - biology, biblical chronology, and the origin of human language - and showing their relation to one another in solving this question, author Werner Gitt reveals that evolution is not only bad science, it also violates Scripture. Written for the layman, but with a scientific slant, this compelling book devastates Darwinian arguments for the origin of our universe and planet. In helping Christians answer attacks on their faith, Gitt addresses relevant subjects such as: the origin of man, the origin of human language, human behavior, the origin and future of the universe.
