Churchianity Vs. Christianity
The expression "churchianity" was coined by C. S. Lewis. It is a word that describes the parable of Christ-or rather, the event-in which the Lord Jesus Christ pronounced his condemnation on the barren fig tree. Had it been barren, leafless, dead, Christ would not have condemned it. He might even have spoken a word of life and brought it into newness. But this tree stood there gloriously adorned with leaves, telling everyone around that that they could come up to it in order to find a harvest of ripe fruits. But there was nothing but leaves. The appearance was there; of reality, there was nothing. The words spoken by Christ are frightening: 'there will never be a fruit on your branches until the end of the world.'" Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh
For over fifty years, Anthony Bloom (1914-2003 was head of the russian Orthodox Church ihn Great Britain (Patriarchate of Moscow). Arriving in Britain in 1949 he played a major part of ecumenical work and exerted a wide influence through his broadcasts, writings (he is the author of several spiritual classics), and reputation as a spiritual leader. His writings reflect both the essence of Orthodoxy and his own experience of the struggle to live Christianity on a daily basis.

The book examines the ways in which adjectives contribute to the realization of the various language functions in several of Metropolitan Anthony Bloom’s (1914–2003) spirituality works and transcribed talks, as well as in their Romanian translated versions. In particular, it aims at offering an application of the communication theory (cf. Jakobson 1960/1987, Kinneavy 1980) to Metropolitan Anthony’s contemporary religious discourse and an investigation of the underlying lexical-semantic and pragmatic relations carried out by the adjectival class in order for discourse aim to be achieved.
