Taking Care of Men

The idea of the sensitive, post-feminist 'new man' has received great attention. This book sets out to determine how much of the hype is based on fact, and why such images have proliferated in the media. McMahon focuses on the pivotal issue of men's relationship to the vital daily work of caring for people - both physically and emotionally - revealing much confusion about the extent and the interpretation of change. Using statistical data, as well as interview transcripts and media analysis, McMahon draws insightful distinctions between pleasure and performance, assistance and responsibility, gendered personality and gendered jobs, and - underlying all - between consumption and production. Incorporating social theory, psychology and popular culture, this book argues that recent social conversation about men largely avoids the important political point that men's material interests provide a major motivation for resistance to pro-equity change.

No Other Savior But Jesus Christ

Beginning with his text from Acts 4:12, “Neither is there salvation in any other…” Dr. Tuckney demonstrates that there is no salvation but by Christ, who is the only Savior. He shows this from God’s design that there is no name under heaven given to us by which we must be saved. Nor is there any temporal, much less any spiritual and eternal salvation other than which is found by way of covenant through Jesus Christ. In opposition to this, Tuckney takes to task those in his day (and ours) who say that salvation may be found outside the Gospel, which includes other religious views and philosophical arguments. Then, Dr. Tuckney examines the all-important question about those who might b...

Australian Mothering

This collection defines the field of maternal studies in Australia for the first time. Leading motherhood researchers explore how mothering has evolved across Australian history as well as the joys and challenges of being a mother today. The contributors cover pregnancy, birth, relationships, childcare, domestic violence, time use, work, welfare, policy and psychology, from a diverse range of maternal perspectives. Utilising a matricentric feminist framework, Australian Mothering foregrounds the experiences, emotions and perspectives of mothers to better understand how Australian motherhood has developed historically and contemporaneously. Drawing upon their combined sociological and historical expertise, Bueskens and Pascoe Leahy have carefully curated a collection that presents compelling research on past and present perspectives on maternity in Australia, which will be relevant to researchers, advocates and policy makers interested in the changing role of mothers in Australian society.
