Gli ordini cavallereschi
La figura dell’uomo a cavallo è sempre stata presente nell’immaginario collettivo; nel mito, l’unione di questi due esseri, uomo e cavallo, ha dato origine ai centauri e a essi è stata dedicata una costellazione: quella del sagittario. Tutte le grandi civiltà a partire dalle più antiche non si sono private di tale immagine, sia in termini positivi, come i cavalieri che combattono per la giustizia, la difesa dei deboli e per onore, sia in negativo, come i cavalieri neri, al servizio del Male. A ciò si aggiungono i cavalieri volti a punire, per volere di Dio, l’operato dell’uomo: i cavalieri dell’Apocalisse. Partendo quindi dal mito del cavaliere e del cavallo si risalirà la corrente storica che ha condotto nel Medioevo alla nascita di ordini cavallereschi il cui obiettivo era quello di difendere Cristo e la sua parola, e dove ha vissuto, sentimenti frammisti alla bramosia di ricchezze, fama e gloria. La Palestina, la terra promessa sia dal punto di vista spirituale che materiale dell’uomo medioevale.
LA CROCE E IL CANNONE
Il primo centenario dall’ingresso dell’Italia nel primo conflitto mondiale (1915) è occasione di studi aggiornati alla luce di nuove ricerche archivistiche e documentarie, oltre che di riflessioni di merito alla luce di nuove sensibilità su quella che è stata definita la Grande Guerra. Ecco allora che si è voluto pubblicare in anastatica, racchiuso tra una contestualizzazione storica e un commento storico-critico, un inedito documento sottratto alla polvere degli scaffali e all’oblio. È un discorso, palesemente interventista, pronunciato dal sacerdote Luigi Marzano (1882-1967) a Galàtone (Le), nella Collegiata dell’Assunta, domenica 18 luglio 1915, durante una pubblica cerimonia religiosa per propiziare la vittoria delle truppe italiane da due mesi al fronte. È un testo singolare perché, in piena armonia con le direttive di buona parte dell’episcopato italiano, esprime pieno favore al conflitto ma si pone in netto contrasto con il magistero del pontefice regnante, Benedetto XV (1914-1922), e con la sua idea di guerra come «inutile strage».

The essays in this volume view the category of the sacred not as a monolithic attribute that applies only to music written for and performed in a religious ritual. Rather, the “sacred” is viewed as a functional as well as a topical category that enhances the discourse of cross-pollination of musical vocabularies between sacred and secular compositions, church and concert music.
