Bishop John Shaw was importing priests from Europe when he discerned the need for a seminary for the Diocese of San Antonio, TX. A locally-formed clergy was key to the support of the Catholic faith in the young diocese. Relying on five diocesan priests as faculty, Shaw dedicated St. Johns Seminary in 1915. A frontier, make-do attitude energized the first faculty as they taught and guided the seminarys first class who lived and studied in what had been the bishops residence. Se trata de un ajuste lógico al nuevo turismo,marcado por su incidencia y repercusión en algunos territorios de interior, por los nuevos hábitos de los turistas, por el uso creciente de las nuevas tecnologías, por la segmentación de los mercados y por la necesidad de abordarlo desde nuevos planteamientos de sostenibilidad. Pero se trata de una modalidad no exenta de problemas y conflictos, que requieren visiones interdisciplinares y propuestas ajustadas a cada realidad. La necesidad de analizar y reflexionar estos aspectos guía los diferentes capítulos del libro. Book of Abstracts. Workshop on Simulation and Optimization for Sustainable Engineering
The Workshop on Simulation and Optimization for Sustainable Engineering is held in Santander (September 28th-29th) on the occasion of the visit of Prof. Ignacio Grossmann to the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering of the Universidad de Cantabria in the framework of the Fulbright U.S. Specialist Program. This workshop is organized in collaboration with AQUIQÁN, the Association of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Cantabria, with the aims of serving both as a forum of discussion of the recent advances in the topic and a meeting point of the closest collaborators of Prof. Grossmann in Spain over the last years. Overall, 30 researchers will take part in this event coming from several universities (Alicante, Cantabria, Rovira i Virgili, Salamanca, Sevilla, and Valladolid) and the IMDEA Materials Institute. The program includes a plenary lecture imparted by Prof. Grossmann, one keynote presentation representative of each institution and around 15 oral presentations from young researchers.
