Architectures of Colonialism
Fragen des kulturellen Erbes und unseres Umgangs damit sind nicht neutral. Ereignisse wie die Black Lives Matter-Bewegung und der Sturz von Denkmälern und Statuen zeigen, wie stark sich die koloniale Vergangenheit in unsere gebaute Umgebung eingeschrieben hat; zugleich prägt der Kolonialismus weiterhin kulturelles Gedächtnis und Geschichtsschreibung. There is scant research on the art produced under the Congregation of the Oratory of Saint Philip Neri, with the exception of a couple of general books focused primarily on major Oratorian art pieces. Therefore, this book of essays aims to discuss the art and culture produced by or associated with the Oratorians by providing a broad overview focused especially on rarely investigated issues. The authors focus on this very important artistic production, commonly forgotten when compared with other religious productions of art, by covering geographical areas spanning from Sri Lanka to Mexico, including Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, India and Brazil.

Gardens of the Iberian Peninsula
In garden research, Spanish and Portuguese green spaces are scarcely visible. This is a striking contrast not only to their diversity and quality but also to the global network of both countries, especially during the Early Modern period. To counterbalance this, specialists from Spain, Portugal and Germany gathered in 2021 on an international and interdisciplinary conference. In the Portuguese Palace of Queluz they discussed the fundamental issues of garden art on the Iberian Peninsula. Their contributions are collected in this book. They are proof of a cross-border transcultural approach, which has freed itself from national stereotypes. Also, it addresses insights which have been derived from the cultural interaction across the centuries and the different epochs of garden art.
