Esta obra da mucho más de lo que promete en el título. Analizando la revista Proa, incide en el papel protagonista de las publicaciones periódicas en el debate arquitectónico colombiano. Se aportan datos de gran relevancia sobre edificios, arquitectos y programas urbanos, poniendo en relieve la exigencia de analizar la publicidad de arquitectura no como algo meramente anecdótico, sino como un componente esencial tanto de la relación entre arquitectura, ciudad y tejido industrial como del imaginario arquitectónico de una sociedad. En este sentido, su estudio se inserta en una reciente pero pujante línea de investigación en arquitectura contemporánea, que ha producido ya en diversos países resultados notables sobre el estudio de las relaciones entre publicidad y arquitectura.
El trazo del horizonte
Desde el horizonte se irradia un aura de misterio que ha cautivado a la humanidad desde tiempos inmemorables. Entre el cielo y la tierra se ha contemplado a la distancia la aparente línea, cuya horizontalidad difusa define y a la vez se define entre lo superior y lo inferior. Inalcanzable y esquivo, el horizonte ha estimulado la creatividad de la humanidad y ha inspirado sus obras artísticas, sus cosmogonías y sus arquitecturas. El trazo del horizonte indaga sobre la manera en que cinco arquitectos contemporáneos han concebido y representado aquella elusiva “línea”. La presencia o la ausencia del trazo del horizonte en los bosquejos arquitectónicos da pistas sobre cómo estos arquitectos abordan, por medio del dibujo, la arquitectura y su relación con el mundo comprendido entre el cielo y la tierra. Este libro también ilustra, con el fin de ampliar el panorama, cómo cinco culturas —repartidas a lo largo y ancho del tiempo y la geografía— han concebido y representado la relación cosmogónica original entre el cielo y la tierra, relación que ha dado forma a su pensamiento, sus costumbres y sus arquitecturas.
