A Tangled Tale

This is the extended and annotated edition including * an extensive biographical annotation about the author and his life * all the original illustrations A Tangled Tale is a collection of ten brief humorous stories by Lewis Carroll (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson), published serially between April 1880 and March 1885 in The Monthly Packet magazine. Arthur B. Frost added illustrations when the series was printed in book form. The stories, or Knots as Carroll calls them, present mathematical problems. In a later issue, Carroll gives the solution to a Knot and discusses readers' answers. The mathematical interpretations of the Knots are not always straightforward. The ribbing of readers answering wrongly — giving their names — was not always well received. (from wikipedia)

The collection was also published under the name Rhyme? And Reason? It is Lewis Carroll's longest poem. Both the poem and the collection were illustrated by A.B. Frost."Phantasmagoria" is a narrative discussion written in seven cantos between a ghost (a Phantom) and a man named Tibbets. Just as in our society, in ghost society there is a ...

This book examines the debate over King Arthur from a variety of perectives in an attempt to find the truth. Emphasis is placed up the facts. Different theories about the king are examined, including the idea that he was mythical or a general rather than a king. A variety of possible answers are examined before reaching a conclusion. The origins of other characters such as Guinevere and Lancelot are investigated as the origin of the Grail legend. The final chapter looks at why the Arthurian tales have had such enduring interest.

Applesauce Weather

Applesauce Weather

In a touching poetic novel, a fall apple ritual—along with some inventive storytelling—brings a family together as they grieve the loss of a beloved family member. When the first apple falls from the tree, Faith and Peter know that it’s applesauce weather, even though Peter is getting a little old for such things. It also means Uncle Arthur should be here to tell his stories, with a twinkle in his eye as he spins tales about how he came to have a missing finger. But this is the first year without Aunt Lucy, and when Uncle Arthur arrives, there’s no twinkle to be found and no stories waiting to be told. Faith is certain, though, that with a little love and patience, she and Peter might finally learn the truth about that missing finger. Paired with warm, expressive illustrations by Amy June Bates, this heartfelt tale by award-winning poet Helen Frost highlights the strength of family and the power of a good story.
