The collection includes copies of correspondence to and from Senator Wayne Morse, and correspondence and notes of Arthur Smith regarding Morse. The microfilm contains copies of Morse's correspondence with President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Also included in the collection are materials concerning the investigation of the Morningside Hospital in Portland, Or., and the related U.S. Senate effort to fund a mental hospital in Alaska in the mid-1950s. A typescript of Smith's book on Morse, titled The tiger in the Senate (1962) is also included.

An American Rape
An account of the Giles-Johnson case in which three young black males, James Giles, his brother John Giles, and their friend Joe Johnson, were accused of raping a sixteen-year-old white girl in Montgomery County, Maryland, on July 21, 1961. Despite their pleas of innocence, contradictory testimony by the accuser, and exonerating evidence in the state's attorney's office, the three men were convicted and sentenced to death.
Robert's 101 Rules of Order
Instead of a prose account of his own views, veteran journalist and author, A. Robert Smith, uses the old-fashioned style of proverbs short, often punchy statements that are meaningful and often humorous. About half of the proverbs contained here express views on marriage, family relations, child behavior, and other essential topics. The other half includes proverbs by Ben Franklin and sayings from other popular figures, such as Shakespeare, Confucius, Schweitzer, Churchill, Eleanor and Teddy Roosevelt, the Buddha, Maya Angelou, Mark Twain, and Will Rogers. Nine of the Ten Commandments found in the Christian faith are included in "Robert's 101 Rules." as well as some comparable rules from all the major religions.

He moved to Virginia Beach, Va., working as an editorial editor for the Virginian-Pilot for several years. After leaving this post, he wrote a biography of Hugh Lynn Cayce, later becoming the editor for Venture Inward, the magazine for the Association for Research and Enlightenment.
