The Palgrave Handbook of Testimony and Culture
This Palgrave Handbook examines the ways in which researchers and practitioners theorise, analyse, produce and make use of testimony. It explores the full range of testimony in the public sphere, including perpetrator testimony, testimony presented through social media and virtual reality. A growing body of research shows how complex and multi-layered testimony can be, how much this complexity adds to our understanding of our past, and how creators and users of testimony have their own complex purposes. These advances indicate that many of our existing assumptions about testimony and models for working with it need to be revisited. The purpose of this Palgrave Handbook is to do just that by bringing together a wide range of disciplinary, theoretical, methodological, and practice-based perspectives.
Natural Gas Seepage
The book offers a modern, comprehensive, and holistic view of natural gas seepage, defined as the visible or invisible flow of gaseous hydrocarbons from subsurface sources to Earth’s surface. Beginning with definitions, classifications for onshore and offshore seepage, and fundamentals on gas migration mechanisms, the book reports the latest findings for the global distribution of gas seepage and describes detection methods. Seepage implications are discussed in relation to petroleum exploration, environmental impacts (hazards, pollution, atmospheric emissions, and past climate change), emerging scientific issues (abiotic gas and methane on Mars), and the role of seeps in ancient cultures. With an updated bibliography and an integrated analysis of available data, the book offers a new fundamental awareness - gas seepage is more widespread than previously thought and influences all of Earth’s external “spheres”, including the hydrosphere, atmosphere, biosphere, and anthroposphere.

Momentele și schițele aduc o umanitate grotescă, în care oamenii nu trăiesc, ci mimează că o fac, până la dezagregarea omenescului: lumea lor e un moft al unor inadaptabili, căutând în pălăvrăgeala de la berărie un mod de a trece timpul, în insecuritate și ambianță nevrotică. Sentimentul de insecuritate și „ambianța nevrotică“ au una din explicații în biografia lui Caragiale: confuzia privind originea, numele, identitatea culturală, într-o vreme când se vorbea tot mai mult despre „rasă“, despre psihologie și formarea personalității ca efect al moștenirii genetice, și-a pus, desigur, amprenta asupra felului de a gândi lumea și rosturile ființei interioare. Fiul emigrantului din Kefalonia, primul născut din familia lui Ștefan Karaialis din Argostoli, a întemeiat, alături de V. Alecsandri și de Constantin Negruzzi, dramaturgia română.
