Midkine: From Embryogenesis to Pathogenesis and Therapy
Carl Edward Sagan’s (1934-1996) one of the famous quotation was “Who are we? We find that we live on an insignificant planet of a humdrum star lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe in which there are far more galaxies than people.“ From past to date, well-known molecules, enzymes, proteins, lipids and carbohydrates are studied in the pathogenesis of several diseases both as a diagnostic/prognostic biomarker and therapeutic agent. The underlying mechanism of unexplained diseases and failure of therapies are frequently studied with well-known biomarkers, but remain unclear in many cases. As Dr. Sagan said other keys are still waiting to be known in some forgotten corner of a body universe, we find strength to propose that one of them can be the growth factor with cytokine activity named “Midkine” This book summarizes the extensive up-to-date literature overeview with the lastest work of experts about midkine in a detailed format that conveys its role as both a pathologic factor and therapeutic agent.

The most recent developments in diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of Gliomas (Glioblastoma) in the brain are presented. The importance of personalized medicine and clinical validation for targeted therapy are discussed. The identification of various types of biomarkers is included. The identification and validation of brain cancer (glioblastoma) genes are discussed. Role of cancer stem cells in the initiation, progression, and persistence of malignant gliomas is explained. The use of surgical resection, chemotherapy (e.g., temozolomide), immunotherapy, and radiotherapy for malignant glioblastoma are pointed out. Standard (established) as well as newer imaging modalities (proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy) are discussed.

Treatment of Ovarian Cancer
This new volume presents the latest research on therapies for ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer is cancer that begins in the cells that constitute the ovaries, including surface epithelial cells, germ cells, and the sex cord-stromal cells. Cancer cells that metastasize from other organ sites to the ovary (most commonly breast or colon cancers) are not then considered ovarian cancer. KUTAHYA LISESI 100. YILI (1890 - 1990)
Kütahya Sultanisi adındaki çınar fidanının toprağa dikilmesi, halk arasındaki adıyla Taş Mektep binasının yapılması için, o zamanın Kütahya Mutasarrıfı Tevfik Paşa’nın yardımlarıyla 1886 Yılında bir komisyon kurulmuştu. Hacı Yusuf Efendi başkanlığında kurulan bu Komisyon, Hükümetten bin lira ve Kütahyalılardan toplanan paralarla inşaata başlamıştır. Bu arada Mutasarrıf Tevfik Paşa görevden ayrılmış ve yerine Haşim Paşa göreve başlamıştır. Haşim Paşa da gayret etmiş ve halkın malzeme ve emek katkılarıyla üç yılı aşkın bir zamanda bina hazır hale getirilmişti. Okul 12 Ocak 1890 günü Kütahya Sultanisi adı ile eğitim ve öğretime başlamıştır. 1990 Yılına gelindiğinde bir asırlık okulun 100. Kuruluş Yılını, geçmişin görkemini, geçmişin ihtişamını anarak kutladık.
