This book provides an introduction to a topic of central interest in transcendental algebraic geometry: the Hodge conjecture. Consisting of 15 lectures plus addenda and appendices, the volume is based on a series of lectures delivered by Professor Lewis at the Centre de Recherches Mathematiques (CRM). The book is a self-contained presentation, completely devoted to the Hodge conjecture and related topics. It includes many examples, and most results are completely proven or sketched. The motivation behind many of the results and background material is provided. This comprehensive approach to the book gives it a ``user-friendly'' style. Readers need not search elsewhere for various results. The book is suitable for use as a text for a topics course in algebraic geometry; includes an appendix by B. Brent Gordon.
The volume consists of invited refereed research papers. The contributions cover a wide spectrum in algebraic geometry, from motives theory to numerical algebraic geometry and are mainly focused on higher dimensional varieties and Minimal Model Program and surfaces of general type. A part of the articles grew out a Conference in memory of Paolo Francia (1951-2000) held in Genova in September 2001 with about 70 participants.

This volume includes the proceedings of a workshop on Invariant Theory held at Queen's University (Ontario). The workshop was part of the theme year held under the auspices of the Centre de recherches mathematiques (CRM) in Montreal. The gathering brought together two communities of researchers: those working in characteristic 0 and those working in positive characteristic. The book contains three types of papers: survey articles providing introductions to computational invarianttheory, modular invariant theory of finite groups, and the invariant theory of Lie groups; expository works recounting recent research in these three areas and beyond; and open problems of current interest. This volume is comprised of two parts: the first contains articles by S. N. Evans, F. Ledrappier, and Figa-Talomanaca. These articles arose from a Centre de Recherches de Mathematiques (CRM) seminar entitiled, ``Topics in Probability on Lie Groups: Boundary Theory''.
